LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -Two people have taken a dog from the safety of his own backyard near the intersection of East Branch Street and Rodden Street in Longview, and the culprits were caught on tape.

The video was posted to KLTV 7's Facebook page around noon on Wednesday. The video shows a person jump the fence, then hand the dog to an accomplice. The pair then run off down the street with the dog.

The dog is a five-month-old bull terrier named Zeus. He is partially deaf and extremely friendly, say his owners Katie and Carl Worden.

"We got him at 8 weeks old and he was born September 5th. When I saw he was gone, panic. I mean, it's heartbreaking," Katie says. "The sickness of just desperation, you know, what do we do? They were just quick and grabbed him and took off."

The video shows one person apparently keeping watch, while the other goes over the fence and grabs Zeus. Friendly Zeus was an easy target.

Time is critical in looking for Zeus.

"It's very important to start looking right away, because stolen dogs are rarely, if ever, returned or found. The longer the wait, the slimmer the chances are of getting him back to his owners," says friend Klancey Cox.

Katie is already missing the little dog's habits.

"He's sitting on the couch and I'm up going to the kitchen; he gets up to see where I'm at and make sure I'm good. He just always wants to be with us," she says.

The Wordens are appealing to whomever took him.

"Just put him back. Please just return him to us," Katie says.

The Wordens have filed a report with Longview police. Their friends have been joined in the search by workers with the Humane Society of Northeast Texas.

That's horrible and horrendous! What sick and sad people would steal this pup right from the owners backyard. It makes me hesitate letting my dogs play in the backyard on nice days while I'm out. I really hope they find Zeus.

This is very sad, and unfortunately had been happening more. We have had an out break of people stealing dogs here in our town and in Denver people have had their dogs stolen, but on Craig's list to be sold. They got their dog back only in two days time to have their dogs stolen again and put back on Craig's list. They now are without their dogs. When we leave our house we already have all access in the backyard pad locked, but we are now locking our doggie door to keep the dogs in when we are gone. It is just sick what people do to make a "quick buck" and to cause other families grief!!
