From what I just read it looks like it's cured with Antibiotics. I wouldn't think that was TOO expensive? I couldn't find any home remedies.
And just for future reference. Medical care of these breeds isn't cheap by a long shot. I'm not encouraging any drastic type measures here, just letting you know what you could be in for.
Good luck!
Fungal infection (Blastomycosis) is a yeastlike fungal infection that is not treatable with antibiotics. Only antifungal medications work. And, there are only two kinds out there, and the generic form is the one that costs 100's of dollars per month. The brand name is much more.
Then there are the tests that measure the presence of the antigens of Cryptococcus. These tests are preformed regularly until well after all signs of the disease are gone. And then, even after all this , there is no promise the dog will be cured.
My EM (Max) has been in and out of the hospital for a week now. I know what I'm up against.
Also, I am well aware these breeds are not cheap. While I am a first time EM owner, I have had big breeds all my life, from Great Danes to Greyhounds. Oh, my horses should count as well!
This is simply an extremely expensive medical regime to treat this condition with no guarantees. I was just hoping that maybe, by a long shot, that there might be an alternative treatment out there.
