Practice Evaluation - Danae

Okay so it only allows 5 pictures per post so I will have to post 2 posts to get all the pictures that I think show all of Danae. Some of them are older pictures as I don't have newer ones that will show what is needed. Okay and the remainder...100_1635zoe.jpg100_1617a.jpg100_1499azoe.jpg100_1498azoe.jpg

Have fun! Again don't worry about hurting my feelings, I have developed a thick skin and I don't mind chatting about her faults as much as her strengths.

I know crap all about CC confirmation, but she's lovely and nothings jumping out at me as BAD. The one infront of her in the first two pics almost looks like a boxer from this angle though.

I also know very little about breed standard. I read through the whole AKC thing but that doesn't mean I'd be any good as a judge. Even so, a few things stick out. Legs are fantastic ... straight where they should be, moderate slope where that's needed, especially in the first shot of the second series. Looks like she might be leaning forward a bit in the others (could be he pic angle) because her pasterns go off the vertical a bit. Great shoulders, wondering if she's a little spare on muscle in the HQ or if because she's a bitch it's okay for her to be a little more streamlined?
Hard to get a good angle on her head and I'd guess that's where a lot of evaluation gets done but it looks correct - no excessive loose skin (dewlap or haw), mild wrinkle on the forehead, nice straight lines.
Ears, tail, croup, back all look good - ribs look a little thin: "depth of the ribcage is equal to half the total height of the dog, descending slightly below the elbow".

Overall I think she's a gorgeous girl and I love how trim and athletic she looks. If I have to nitpick, I would say she's a little light in the rib depth and may need her HQ built up bit but like I say I'm a) completely unfamiliar with the official CC standard, b) not a pro, and c) not sure how much lee-way is given for a lighter-built bitch.

I, too am not an pro in the breed standards department, but if she made group, you know you've got a nice looking girl. And she is VERY nice looking! Nice top line; good angles on the rear (I always look at that first because of stick-leg Ruby :( ); good looking head. She looks a little thin to me, too. But those shots of her sitting shows a good chest; just doesn't show when she's on a stack. Is that normal?
Either way, she's a keeper.

Not bad ( I know it is hard without having the dog right there in front of you :) Trust me I know :) ) You have picked up on one of the worst problems I have with this girl too. See the difference between the show pictures and the one where she is outside is one is hard stacked and one is a natural stack when she is watching someone arrive at the neighbours :) This dog is a pain in the a$$ to hard stack and have her not push back on her front feet making her look off.

You are right on the chest... we need some more chest on her and the judge made the same comment on the show about muscle but also noted it was April and she hadn't gotten out much so muscle definition is not there. The judge didn't fault her that day for not having as much definition in her HQ but each judge is different so some might have :)

Thanks, she did well both those weekends over all :) She was thin :) Winter here is hard and we keep them thin so to not have issues with joints (shows were in April). One of the judges said to put 10 lbs on her :) lol so it was noted as well :)

How old is she? I know one of my concerns with starting to show Apollo at the age of almost 2 is that TM's go through this 'weedy' stage about then, and he definetly is.....

For winter muscle tone....can you teach her to pull a sled? Doesn't have to be a fancy one either. The pulling teacher here recommends those cheap plastic kids sleds they sell all winter for it. The hardest part would be a harness, and as long as it was padded well it shouldn't do much coat damage.

She would be 18 months I think in most of the pictures that are there, there might be one or 2 of the shots that she is 2 years old. You also have hit the nail on the head with the winter activity... 100_1734.jpg

I also should say this father's side of these lines matures very slow and now that we are heading into 4 years of age is vastly different. Will try for some newer pics of her shortly.

Mary do you have a side profile head shot? In the younger side view picture she looks retracted, but I don't know if it is the camera angle.
In the show pics it looks like she could have more length, as she looks more square then rectangular. And I would personally like to see more bone, chest. But again she is younger in the pictures so would be nice to see more now that she is matured.
That said most of the stacked pictures are taken at a strange angle without a full side profile so it is hard to tell.
What is her current height and weight if you have them.
Good idea though, I will try to get some good shots from the show this weekend and set up a critique for these 2 here.

I don't have any new pictures of her. Will try for some once the weather is a little better here. She is lightly undershot her length is good and haven't had any judges remark on it but everyone sees something different they would like to improve on and you are right the angles for the show pics suck but they have 4 rings crammed in that horse arena and it is near impossible to get around to get a direct angle of the pictures. The new location is better so hopefully this year we can get some better ones. Don't have her current weight and last height was 26.5 to 27 inches when she stands still.

i don't know breed standards well enough but she is drop dead gorgeous Mary. She seems lean but that can be hard to tell just by picture alone, have a guestimation on her weight just so i can reference a little bit?

Thanks! At this point in time she was probably around 95 lbs. and we do keep them a little lean but she also is a dog that was hard to keep weight on until she matured :) So at that point she was eating about 5 to 6 cups a day and seemed to breath off the calories.
