So sorry to hear about your wife. You all are in my prayers. Good Job to Mouse. I think our dogs understand a great deal more than we give them credit for.

Ty everyone, and the wife thanks everyone. To update, the wife condition is stable and she's actually doing alot better, very little slur in her speach. Downside she can move her right hand about 2 inches and only a slight movement to her right leg. Somehow she broke her big toe and the one next to it. There hopeful she will get back a decent amount of use in both with alot of rehab and therapy. Talking is ok but asking for detailed information seems to be a real struggle. Mouse has finally collapsed into total snore mode, think he has been up searching for her and patroling the yard and house non stop from the time she left till about a hr ago, when I got home from visiting.

What an angel Mouse is... such a good boy, but I feel bad for him and for the situation. :( I am sure things will continue to improve, though-- I am glad you all are pulling together as a family to get through this. Healing thoughts for your wife and family.

TWW...glad to hear your wife is improving. They have incredible rehabilitative therapies available...depending on where you live. Occupational therapy and physical therapy will really make a difference and may not help her be back to her normal, but she can learn to adjust and with strenght training and assistive devices, many stroke patients do very well. Please inquire about Mouse being involved in the therapy. They both need to learn to be around one another with her new "norm". Involving Mouse will help him adjust and it will surely help her with her therapy. Set goals that involve Mouse such as "I want to be able to let Mouse in and out on my own" or "I want to be able to walk him on my own"..."I want to prepare Mouse's meals". When there is a specific task that requires a bit of a stretch to get to...therapy is more successful. Good luck and PM if I can help you.

Good boy Mouse! I'm so sorry to hear about your wife and that you and your family are going thru this. From my standpoint as a physical therapist, rehab does amazing things! Positive prayers and vibes your way!!

So sorry to hear about your wife! PT/OT will be a life saver for function. Getting Mouse involved is key for all concerned. Lil Brodie has had to deal with all manner of equipment-walker, wheelchair, canes, prosthesis and responded well with a handfull of treats to reinforce "easy" around patients(me and hubby). My hubby is back in the hospital with another amputation so she is looking out the window constantly...keeping a routine is helpful for all of you. Healing vibes your way!!!!!

Great, great news! Awesome advice above and great news! Many hospitals here now will let pets visit, as long as they are up to date on their shots. W've done that with family before, and it seemed to be good for both the dog and the person!

Sorry I'm late, wow your boy is amazing.

Sorry about your wife. Don't fret too much as scary as it is, she needs you to be strong.

Have they said what kind of stroke? Therapy?

Well bit of a set back today, she suffered what is referred to, I guess as a mini stroke last night/early this morning. There also seems to be a circulation problem now in her right side. Talking with her 2 doctors we agree though she does not, that once they get everything under control, she will be going to a inpatient facility, most likely for a min of 21 days for rehab and physical therapy. Been videoing Mouse around the house for her to watch on the tablet, and she has been doing videos for me to play to him, which I have.(Those he goes ape crazy looking for her in the house afterward.) They did a huge change to all her meds today so hoping they work better, and at least manage the issue. Really all the wife is/was most likely the RN in the house, I know jack shit but I guess I'm really about to get the crash course in all it. (Admin may wish to move this to chit chat as most of the rest will just be updates on her) Love ya all and ty all.

As far as I know no. Will have to asked that so I can research it. late last night/ early this morning they called a mini stroke. Her Lupus is causing the blood clots in her brain or so they think.

Hang in there, my father also suffered a mini stroke a few years back. It will take some time to regain short term memory and

Does she by chance have high bp?
