Raw Marrow Bone

I think Norm swallowed a whole raw marrow bone. He had it yesterday and now it's gone. I didn't think there was any way he could swallow it, and I usually keep a really close eye on him while he has something like that. Any advice on what to do? Will he be able to pass it or digest it? He is almost 9 months and is prob about 105lbs. He has also been acting like he is going to throw up, but hasn't actually thrown up yet.

Was he outside with the bone? It's possible he buried it, I had a dog that did that all the time. You know his behavior best, but it can't hurt to take him to the vet. Good luck.

How big was the bone? Marrow bones are usually pretty big around, I find it hard to picture him swallowing it, but if you really think he might have an Xray would show it, and no, if he swallowed it intact I doubt it would pass, though I suppose I could be wrong...

I would think it depends on how big the bone was. I believe the dog's stomach will demolish the bone, if it's small enough. To put your mind at ease, you might want to call the vet or take the dog to the vet.

If it was outside, could also have been "stolen". Oscar had a beef shoulder blade he was working on that I made him leave outside and several hours later it had vanished ... we strongly suspect the neighbor's black Lab who likes to come over and use our yard as a toilet and steal whatever bones, toys, or baby animals it can find.
If it was indoors, then I'd want to know first how big it was and if it was a "true" raw bone or something boiled or smoked. You can always have an X-ray done, but if it requires surgery to get it back out it definitely won't be cheap.

He didn't swallow the bone thank god...we found it on the fifth search of the house under the tv stand in the front bedroom. I was freaking out for a while as he is our only pet and I was all but certain he could not have swallowed it. He is still coughing and hacking tho. Must just have been a coincidence that started at the same time the bone went missing. Anyone got a good home remedy for coughing? I really can't afford the vet bill, and don't want to have him on meds if I can avoid it.

Snotty coughing and hacking? Could be kennel cough, which really ought to be checked cause it can turn into pnumonia.....
