Refusing to potty in the rain

Well Kahlua and I just had a battle of the wills and I think she won. She has been refusing to potty in the rain. I don't remember it being this bad last winter. But the last few days she is having none of this rain stuff. I even put her in a rain coat thinking okay lets fix this. Nope. We just spent a miserable 20 minutes standing in the poring rain together while she stared up at me with big sad eyes and did nothing while I coaxed "go potty. go potty... it's just rain. You have a coat on... it isn't even touching you. Just go potty" ARRRRRGGGGGHHHH

So now she is back in her box and yelling at me. Meanwhile while concentrating on keeping kahlua from going on the porch Diesel.... wait for it.... Went on the porch.

I just can't win today.

Ugh. I had a day like that yesterday. It's frustrating. I would do exactly as you're doing. If she won't pee then she has to be crated if she can't be 100% trusted not to go in the house. Roy doesn't like the rain, especially the cold rain. He'll hold it for ridiculous amounts of time. Luckily he also will never, ever pee in the house so that means that eventually he'll go outside if I wait long enough and I don't have to crate him.

All of my animals have been a little weird the last four days or so., and I have 12 in the house right now. Even the pond fish were behaving oddly.

Diesel can be trusted not to go in the house. He has to be well beyond his limit to even consider such a thing. But, Kahlua has no problem going in the house if conditions aren't just perfect outside. Luckily she absolutely won't go in her crate. But, when husband let her out when he got home he just let her go on the porch. :/

might be to late to teach him that the rain is nothing to be concerned about , but if you get the pups out for walks or runs in the rain they do get to where they ignore it , all my dogs are indifferent to even a down pour or thunder storm , hail , blizzards , it started long ago by running in every type of weather with my foundation bitch , they loved running , the indifference has been passed down since , the pups see the older dog go out regardless of weather and do likewise ...... maybe when it's warm you can take them out for something fun in the rain where they are distracted and become desensitized to it ......... having free access to the outside , indifference to the rain is not always a good thing ........

I think the problem is we just don't get very much rain living in the drought zone. So last year they seemed totally fine with it but we had a lot of light rain days last year.... This is really the first of it this year and its heavier then usual also. However, when we move to Portland I imagine they are going to get used to it reallll fast. lol

I HEAR YOUR PAIN! Yes...rain = trauma which can be played and parlayed into treats and extra snuggles. Wuss Dogs! I have, I admit, stood out in the rain, with a golf umbrella, shielding the little princess from the cold rain. But, she will refuse even that unless her bladder or bowels are imminent. So, when I call her to come and potty before I go to work...yeah, it's sort of..."not on your life. Do I Know You?" Fickle Female...taught by another, at some times, Fickle Female.

We will have rain for two days, over tons of snow...think ice! And then followed up by up to - get this - 50 cms of snow. Do the math....2.54 cm to an inch....SO....Bailey will be, likely, confined to the small yard because, ice and large dogs = surgery. And ice and rain = probably surgery, and rain and rain and rain leads to Spring. Spring, ah, Nirvana! I'm planting my garden in my head....JOY! Except for the scowling Mastiff at my side.

OH, AND THE DOG PARK? Ice covered snow on a 25 degree slant, which between the yelling and the arguing and the splayed out dogs that can't get a grip, punctuated, here and there, with goo piles of wood chips and mud. NOT HAPPENING.

This IS The Joke of Global Warming. HOUSEBOUND.

NIK: I'm sorry....I know it is bad in California, but "This Too Will Pass." It's just prep for Oregon...though, I think rain is the majority bummer there.

Haha in this regards I am as wussy as my dogs. I am so not used to weather. A little rain and I think "Would my boss mind if I wfh today so I don't have to drive in this stuff". Aw the life of being a native californian. The Oregonians will likely hate me but then again I will be working from home so will have the leisure to decide if I don't want to go out in the rain. Yay. I am enjoying the idea of not having to commute to work at all. That will be nice.

With the rain issue Sean has started to discuss the possibility of putting up a temporary tent shelter to extend out the porch into a part of the dirt area so they can potty in the dirt with no fear of rain touching their delicate little heads.... The things we do for our pups.
