Reoccurring ear infection?

It still seems to be discharging an oily substance but it hasn't gotten black again. I'm also not sure the discharge isn't the zymox working it's way back out.

It has been a couple of days since I stopped the daily treatments and the discharge has stopped completely. His ear hasn't looked this healthy in almost 3 months. If it is still clear next weekend I'll be willing to say the zymox works as it has returned a week later after every other treatment tried.

I never thought a picture like this would ever make me this happy.

I do that with Hank (flip the ears). I mentioned Zymox to the vet and neither one had heard of it. I'm going to have to try it and see if it helps. He doesn't show any other signs of food allergies. His ears are looking great! Hopefully it's worked.

I love Zymox. I always keep it on hand. Jiggers' ear looks gorgeous! We're all so funny - getting excited over clean dog ears.

I'm going to say the zymox worked. His ear is still clean! This is first time that it has stayed clean for more than a week after treatment stopped. Thank you to everyone who recommended it.

Excellent news.

I think I jinxed it. His right ear, which has never had an infection, is now bright red with a black ear canal.

I treated his right ear with the zymox for a week. It has now been a month and both ears are still clear. I have started reintroducing eliminated ingredients in hope of finding what may have caused the initial problem. So far grains are OK.

I ordered some of the zymox with hydro-cortisone for the girls. I can't wait for it to come in and try it. Bella's ears are crazy gunky and Sage's could be cleaner. I'll post some progress picks for all of you. Between gunky ears and giardia these girls are killing me financially.

We are going through all this with Lillie right now... pimples and a reoccurring ear infection in her right ear. She was on a 7 day course of antibiotics and was given some drops in her ear at that vet that was supposed to be effective for a month, rather than daily drops at home. I don't remember what either were, right now. A week after the antibiotics ended, her ear infection is back and she's breaking out again.

I feed Acana Pacifica, treats are all soy, grain, dairy, chicken free... Just got some the Zymox on Sunday, so we are on day 4 today. Her ear is looking better, but not clear yet. I hear you on the cost of a reoccurring illness or infection, you can't walk in the door of the office without dropping a $100. Go a couple times in a month for something that should seem simple, like an ear infection and before you know it you're down $500, never mind if you've got TWO dogs!!!

Have you tried some supplements to boost their immunity? They may help both with giardia and the ears. Echinace, fish oil, milk thistle, cordyceps, aloe vera, gluthatione & probiotics, are safe for dogs and could make a difference.

I am definitely looking into more natural solutions. Thanks for the suggestions. The Zymox worked wonders in Sag's ear, but her's is not as bad as Bella's. Right now Bella is sick with something, running a fever and throwing up, so I'm waiting to hear back on what that is before I start supplements. I'll keep these in mind though.

I'm sorry that your baby girl is sick. Hope it's nothing serious and she gets well soon. I always freak out when one of mine is not well, so i understand what you go through.

Poor Bella! Let us know how she is doing. Definitely need to pump up their immune system. Probiotics and the other things mentioned.
