Just to let every on her know. Last Friday July 19th 2012, I adopted a dog from Rising Phoenix mastiff Rescue. He was a Great Dane Lab mix. I was led to believe that he was 3 to 4 years in age. He was extremely skinny. She said it was because of the heat wave, that most of her dogs were not really wanting to eat with all the heat, and an upper respiratory infection that was transferred form another dog. She told me he was almost done with his antibiotics and should be feeling much better soon. She gave me the last 2 pills for him in a pouch with the name of another dog on it. I don't think she actually had a vet look at him. I couldn't leave him there with her. So I took him home. She had told me that the adoption fee of $400 was lowered because his foster family loved him so much that they agreed to pay part of it so it went down to $250. I wrote her a check and left. The paperwork she gave me said that he had come from California, though the details were all blacked out with a permanent marker. The age was also obviously changed from a 7 to a 3. I specifically stated that we were looking for a dog who was either a puppy or young dog. The poor dog stunk like mange and was clearly in pain. He didn't eat. He was lethargic, and vomited several times over the weekend. I immediately took him in to the vet this morning Monday July 23. The vet was horrified. He was 50 lbs under weight, both eyes were infected and found that he had an obstruction in his small intestine that she felt had to have been there for at least 2 to 3 weeks. He was in obvious pain because of this. The vet feared that the obstruction had pierced through his intestine and he was in such bad shape that there was almost no hope of saving him even if she could get him dehydrated. As he was then there was no way he would have lived through the anesthesia. We made the hard decision to go ahead and end his suffering. The vet filed a formal complaint with the police and we have an investigation started. I am horrified at the condition that this person allows these pets to be adopted in or even live with. My poor dog had been suffering for a long time with out the proper care. She lied about so many things and didn't not give our dog the proper care he needed. He could have been saved and lived if she would have taken care of his medical needs. My poor children were so sad. My 10 year old was sobbing. Though we only had him a short time he easily fit into our family right away which makes it that much harder knowing the possibilities that could have been if only he had been treated. The police officer was horrified and was going to personally make sure that the investigation went through. I hope that all her dogs are taken and she is shut down for good.
