Suspected Dog Fight Ring in Flint Mi

I am absolutely horrified by the way this scenario went down. The suspected leader is a 14 year old boy. That's right; A 14 YEAR OLD BOY. So what do these idiots do? Return the dogs to the house where they will be beaten and slaughtered so that there is no longer evidence. I've put up links to a couple of the articles, also a link to a petition site. Do or don't sign the petitiion...but read the article contained in the petition to get a good summary of the whole story. Beware; some written content is graphic.

Shocking.. The bait dog was raped? These kids are just seriously messed up. A sad story indeed.

The dog was a chocolate lab. I'd bet money it was someone's pet. the most disturbing thing is that the relatively healthy dogs were all returned to the location, because the authorities said they didn't have enough evidence. Let's see: outrageous animal abuse to multiple dogs; canine fecal matter & blood all over the garage floor; old mattresses smeared with blood...The police said they were going back in an unspecified period of time to serve the family warrants. By then the dogs will have gone the way of Michael Vick's victims, never to be seen again. And their deaths will probably be very brutal. I hate that city for all my worth. I had to live on the outskirts for several years, & it was a constant battle to keep my kids, my pets, & myself safe & sane. And what about this kid that is the suspected leader of this ring? Who was kicked out of school at the age of 14? Is it just me, or is there something seriously wrong with this whole picture?!?

Ugh, this turns my stomach.

Shortly after moving to the Fort Hood area, my husband and I were home with our dogs (4 year old Beagle, 3 year old Basset/Spaniel mix) in our yard (chain link fence, 4 feet high). After an hour or so, my husband went to call them in... And found an empty yard. We searched, searched, and searched for those dogs, and we just couldnt imagine how they had escaped from the yard (the Beagle *may* have been able to jump out if he was really determined too, but had never tried to our knowledge and the Basset mix surely couldn't have because her legs were just too short). Both were sweet has honey and cute as could be, and peoople would always comment on how friendly they were when they passed by our yard (we're on a corner lot, and the side of our yard is exposed to a busy neighborhood street and sidewalk), and we just assumed that someone fancied them enough to lift them out of our yard. We alerted local shelters and veterinarians, and contacted their microchip companies to register them as missing. About a week later, someone called us from a neighboring town and said that she found our Basset's collar on the road, tags still attached, but she hadn't seen any sign of her. At that point, we were fairly certain they had been stolen, and contacted the police. They didn't/couldn't really do much, but mentioned that with so many rough neighborhoods in the area pets are often stolen to be used as bait dogs.

I surely hope my two didn't end up in a situation like this - I would die with the guilt of not being more attentive. But it has definitely motivated me to learn more about the issue, be more aware, and advocate for justice in these situations.

I'm sorry to hear that seeknoxrun... My hearts goes out to you and your family.

My son is stationed at Ft Hood. Titan and I spent a couple of weeks there. Too country for me...

It really was a very painful experience. They were my dogs even before I met and married my husband. Even with the two crazy pups I have now keeping me busy, I still miss them dearly.

Ha, you mean being late for work because cows escaped their enclosure and are blocking the road isn't you're idea of a fun time?! Mine either. ;) I do love the heat, though. I spent most of my teenage years in Michigan and went to college in Chicago, so I was a bit excited to trade in the bitter cold winters for the blistering heat.

What company is your son in? I wonder if my husband works with him or knows him.... How crazy would that be?

Hey seeknoxrun, I moved to TX from ME so I know what you mean about the bitter cold winters. I really do not care for the 100 degree temps in TX but such is life...

I do not remember what company my son is in but he's an MP. He works with local law enforcement training the MP's on the base.

What is your husband's job?

You're so funny...cow blocking the road...

Fort Hood area has a different feel to it than in the Dallas area. Like I said, it's so country...

Have a great weekend~ May you find peace and comfort in your loss~

My husband is an engineer officer, and he recently took command of the 68th engineer company in the 62nd battalion. Hm, I doubt they would know each other... Unless he's given my husband a ticket that he chose to not inform me about ;)

Small world, though. :)

Ugh this is beyond sick. What I'll never understand is how at this point in our society we let this crap go unpunished or they get a slap on the wrist. Imo this 14 year needs to be charged with everything that can be thrown at him and spend the rest of his life in prison where he can be "baited" along with the rest of the animals. I love this country for many reasons but this is one that makes me wonder what the hell we're doing, we are supposed to be the "best" and yet we let this truly detestable behavior continue without the harsh punishment that it needs. Send a message to them.

On another point, seeknoxrun i am truly sorry for what happened. This is EXACTLY why no matter where i'm at, what yard they are in i am always watching over my girls. I can't even fathom what i would do if someone stole one of them, I would probably go on a rampage trying to find them. This is exactly why we need to have microchips with GPS installed in our dogs (It can't be that hard, they do it with all sorts of endangered animals in the wild, im sure it can be done in a way that would be cheap and mass produced).

Ugh and I'm moving to Michigan.....thankfully not to Flint at least.

Metaldad, where are you moving to in Michigan? Born & raised there, and spent a lot of time all over the state.

Follow up: Kid was charged, & put on an electronic tether. WHY he wasn't locked up, I don't understand. Anyway he broke his electronic tether, so the authorities took him away. The story doesn't mention whether his legal guardians are being held responsible; I have a feeling they're just going after the kid. If there was any way I could take down the adults in that house, I would. Don't tell me the adults didn't know what was going on.

The justice system at work. Charge a 14 yr old but not the parents. They should charge all 3 of them. This 14 yr old can possibly turn into a menace of society.

Yes, it is totally implausible that parents/guardians/whatever in that house didn't know what was going unless they were blind, deaf and confined to bed. They never saw any dogs? They never heard snarls and screams? They never went into their garage -- for....I don't know...the car? Tools? GAAAAAAAAAA

Sadly, the parents don't give a sh#$ what their kids are doing. My sister currently lives in Flint Mi. As have I in the past, depending on where you're at, it can be a very poor and dangerous area to live.Lots of drug addicts, thieves, killers, and apperantly dog fighters:mad: doesn't suprise me though.Flint just seems to be getting worse and worse.
