Tallest Great Dane

Everyone says that this dog needs weight, I still disagree, given his structure. My first dane Duke at 4 years old looked like he was on crack. About a year or so he gained weight, though it didn't look right ( to me) because of his build. Even Thor although he's more solid I can see and feel his spine, but I can't feel his ribs. Great danes are oddly built dogs, IMO.

Its the way his hip bones and backbone show DD. I like slim and trim, but that makes me want to feed him up! But lIke I said its probly just as well....plus at 3yrs old he's barely mature......

I'm looking at the over all build not just his hip and back bone. Personally I think this dog fine ( weight wise) as is. I can see/feel Thor's spine and hip bones but cannot see or feel his ribs, at 200lbs+

I just want to give Zeus surgery.

His overall build sucks and I can't get past it. I think thats screwing with my perception of how skinny he is too.

Edit: I can't play the videos on my ipad, but didn't she say he was 150lbs?

Yah. DD the pictures you posted of Thor look good, slim and trim. This one's borderline too skinny I think, but I also think its just as well considering the shape of his bones....he also looks like he's got no muscle either.

He looks like a giant anorexic greyhound in those pics. The greyhounds posted are slender but you can see that they are packed with muscle, just compare their thighs to Zeus'. His legs alone just look wrong, like the muscles have atrophied or something. Other posters are right in that he probably shouldn't gain more weight because his over all structure is just so poorly cobbled together. It's just really sad to see people celebrating a dog like this, which only encourages people to breed more poorly bred dogs like him.

I am in no way knowledgeable about proper conformation at all, but I have to agree with you all, he just does not look right. As though his proportions are off. I truly hope they have a really good vet. As much I hate to say it, he may have some serious issues with his joints and overall health in the future.

I actually saw a GD at Petsmart yesterday, that resembled this dog. Even though he was only 11 months old and most likely in one of his awkward puppy stages, but I thought of this thread when I saw him. He was intact, but you could easily see all of his ribs and he had a hunched over appearance. He was very sweet and I wish we could have let the dogs of leash so they could play.

That dog looks 2D! :scared2:

Im new to mastiff-type breeds, but most the the Great Danes I see are way too narrow. For such a large breed they look so frail. How does that even happen? I'd love to see more Great Danes like this one. HE ACTUALLY HAS A CHEST!!!
