Thinking about 2

well I just spoke to my breeder today as I had some questions for her while trying to get prepared for my puppys arrival. We were chit chatting and I asked her if she had gotten rid of all the pups yet and she said she had a few aval still as she refused to sell them to a few different people. I am seriously thinking of getting 2. I figure if im going to do it why not do it with 2? But looking for others imput that have maybe tried this. I look at it this way, Im gonna be going through the training process anyway I think that if I get 2 things could actually be easier as they would keep each other busy? Im not worried about the cost a bit I know it will cost double as far as training, food , vet bla bla bla. so if you have done this please give me some imput as it would be greatly appriciated

Some breeders aren't a fan of selling two siblings to the same home. They believe that the pups will bond with one another instead of their families. I'm not sure how true that is but in either case its up to the breed and the owner. I am not sure of your exerience with mastiffs' but it your "new" I wouldn't recommend it personally.

In either case we can only give advice, thoughts, and our opinion what matters the most is what YOU want? How do YOU feel?

Years ago I always had puppies in twos and I loved it! It is definitely more work training two at the same time but definitely doable. These days I am old and not near as motivated or energetic so I space them. LOL If you are up to the task, I don't see any reason not to. I just added a GD puppy to my pack in July and Ruger (EM) was 16 months. I can't wait to see pictures of the babies! :)

We did 2. Big mistake, lots of damage to the house, lots of time working with each individually, did I mention lots of damage! With that said, they are wonderful. The key is to have separate crates (if they are over 9 weeks). We have an older momma like dog that assisted in manners training. Walk them separate, work the behavior separate and remember they are different. I will mention, crate the one you are not working with at the time. That is where we made the initial mistakes that caused the damage.

I have two nine week old puppies right now, had them for four weeks (but that's a whole other story). It's exhausting lol. I thought with two it would just be twice as hard, but it feels more like five times as hard. It's been a few years since I've had a puppy so it could just be me. It sure is fun at times though!

I did this once with German Short haired pointers and it didn't work out well.
They bonded to each other so strongly that they didn't need us for anything but food.
They were unruly and difficult to train and were inseparatable they would cry and carry on when they were separated.
They would become unruly and noisy.

I'd like to have 2 at the same time ... But probably not the exact same time... Like get one at 8 weeks then 3-4 months later get another. Kind of like how we staggered all of our kids - hell even after I sat down & thought about it my dogs fit into the equation too.
Got Oscar summer 2005 (breeder told me I'll see you in 2 yrs or you'll be having a baby), had my oldest son almost exactly 2 yrs later, 19 months had 2nd son, 18 months later had my daughter, 23.5 months later got Mario... No wonder I'm getting puppy fever being on here -he's 18 months old on Monday, I'm apparently due for a baby! :p
