Tips and advice on raising Neo pup

I wish my dog would do this on his own

That's exactly why I asked if he would grow out of it. I'm happy I'm lucky then. Right as I'm typing this he walked away from me a plopped right down in his crate. I will say it made going to get things from the store a lot easier today. You guys have been. Huge help. Thanks.

Great progress, keep it up. I envy your pup.

Don't see any harm in giving it to him. Supervise him at first though so you know he's not going to chew off giant hunks and swallow them.

Do you remember his weight at 8 weeks. Oh man do they grow fast. Hard to believe this little thing is going to turn into a giant in less then a year. I've been taking daily pics of him sitting next to a chest I have and hope to make a little time lapse video someday.

Opie was about 22 lbs at 8 weeks, he was a bit skinny probably because he came from a litter of 13. At 12 weeks he was 36 lbs, 16 weeks 54lbs, 20 weeks 73 lbs and he'll be 6 months on 12-12 and now weighs 92 lbs. I'm trying to keep him on the thin side, so he gets 7 cups of food a day plus a few training treats.

I've never seen anything like that. It actually looks scary lol.

LOL that's what my gf said. It's a legit cow foot bones and all.

Yea my guy came from a litter of 11. I believe on exactly 8 weeks he was 13lbs. So is that normal.

My previous male Neo was only 17 lbs when he was 8 weeks and grew to be 160lbs when fully grown. He's better off a little lighter, some time the pups from large litters take a little time to catch up, but usually do once they don't have to compete for food. I'm trying to keep mine from growing to fast.

Also how do I punish bad behaviour. When he starts acting up I deny him attention until he calms down. What else can I do?

If you can catch him before he REALLY starts acting bad, either distract him, exercise him, or give him a SHORT timeout with a chew of some kind in his crate (depending on the situation and whether its a lack of exercise or just being a brat type of mis-behavior).

Well it's cold where I am right now and he doesn't like going outside at night to do his business. We had a serious play session and I picked him up and get started getting fidgety and when I put him down outside he gave a nip. 8 weeks. I have little boots but it's such a fuss and he doesn't do his business just tries to get them off.

So we came inside, there is a two door entrance. I stopped in the one portion made him sit and we sat there for a few minutes until he calmed down and then we walked inside. It almost seems he gets kinda crabby late at night. He sleeps 24/7 lol

Well, thats more that he's not learned to not use his mouth to express his emotions. But it sounds like you handled it right. He was wound from the play, and may not like being picked up (hard to blame him), plus the cold.

Well I don't have a harness for him just yet, and as for a collar I have read that it can have negative affects when it comes to cherry eye and the third eyelid thing as it holds the skin forward. I'm getting a harness tomorrow. It's hard to take him for walks as he doesn't want to go outside lol. I work from home so maybe I'm playin with him to much ?
While I'm home should he be in the crate locked up for any reason ? He goes into sleep and the door stays open. not at night.
Should I buy a warmer sweater for him ? Thanks for all your help. Just want to handle all situations with him properly.

Can't speak for the cherry eye risks, I do TMs, and they don't have much of a cherry eye problem so its not one I paid much attention to.

What sort of temps are you dealing with?

Its hard to say if you're playing "to much" and at 8 weeks of age he's not going to be able to keep himself occupied well. On the other hand there's no reason you HAVE to entertain him 24/7 either. It may not be a bad idea to get him used to being put in his crate during meal prep time or the like.

Snow on the ground. -6ish today. Live on the water so it's quite windy and chili.

Baci was only 13# at 7 1/2 weeks. She's slowed a little bit, 58# at 19 weeks. But, I don't expect her to be quite as big as your boy. Dad was 185#, Mom 160#. Who knows. She's eating Blue Buffalo grain free, 6 cups a day. It takes her a while to finish it (each meal of 3 cups), so we're not ready to up the food yet. Slow and easy is our plan.. @ Titan519, they do look alike! Cute, cute!

If you want him to be crate trained, you should put him in the crate and close the door, even if you're home. If you're eventually going to give him free reign, then I don't think it's needed.

And yeah, an adjustable sweater definitely, if you're getting one. These guys grow fast!

Well I realised when I first got him he wasn't quite 8 weeks. Shy by about 3 days. On the 16th would be the end of his 8th week. Haven't weight him althought he looks like he is getting bigger. He doesn't seem to keen on eating all of his food either. authority brand grain free and blue buffalo. I was giving him 1 cup every meal 3 times daily. I've gone to 1.5 cups twice daily and even then he doesn't seem to big on eating his second meal.

How do you prepare Baci dish. Mix and flavour with her kibble

When we first got her I got the canned Blue Buffalo puppy grain free and would mix about 2 Tbsp into her food. She'd eat a good chunk of it then snack for a while. Now at 5 1/2 months she's just eating dry. She goes through periods where she doesn't eat much at all (it takes her hours to finish), to eating all 3 1/4 cups in a 20 minute period. Guess it has to do with growth spurts. She's at about 65# now and as tall as our Lab. People have a hard time understanding she's still a puppy because of her size. My 23 yr old daughter hates her (well maybe just really dislikes) because she hates slobber and Baci tries to play a little rough with her mini dachshund. I keep telling her Baci won't eat her, those little dogs give her diarrhea...lol. But, it's an adventure to be sure.
