Hey All.

If it works (new to loading pics) heres my two year old English Mastiff Titus. Hes a great dog and great with the family.
I think hes around 130-140lbs but the others in my family think hes around 150-170lbs??
I dont want him unhealthy but Id like him to fill out a little more. I feed him very well and he gets Dog Chow but what can I do to beef him up a little?
Is it normal at this age for him to be wrinkly and look thin? Will he fill out as he grows in age?
Also we want him to be a better watchdog. He barks and scares a lot of people but still shys away when the approach him or the house. Any suggestions there? Tnx, RR

looks healthy to me, he looks like a happy pup! how much are you feeding him? my dog is about the same age, he is a little heavier but it all depends on the bloodline. you are right; you really dont want this breed to be overwieght (joint problems) so i would just keep doing what you are doing. keep in mind he is still a pup too, probably will continue to fill out for at least another year maybe more.

He is pretty close to his maximum weight but Mastiffs continue to fill out until about 3 so he may gain a little more. I would think about switching him off of Dog Chow to a higher quality food that may help, but some Mastiffs only get to 150 lbs depending on the bloodline, and to try and bulk them up is just going to create health and joint problems.

He looks loved. Welcome to the forum. I would switch him to a better food and see how that goes.

I have my puppy on Orijen but its hard to find. Innova and Evo are also good I would stay away from anything you can buy in a supermarket.

blue buffalo is good but can cause gas. petco around here does a promo for your 11th bag free of the premium brands, kinda helps out.

Our female bullmastiff has a wheat/beef allergy so we had to keep 2 different kinds of food on hand, one for her and one for our english. We were feeding our EM Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul and he was doing fairly well on it, but really didn't seem to enjoy the taste of it or get real excited about eating. Recently we switched to Taste of the Wild and within just a couple of weeks of being on just that (after the transition period of mixing old food in with the new food to ease potential tummy issues) the difference in both our dog's coats is amazing...and our fairly picky EM boy actually seems to love the taste of it!! The biggest issue I have found with foods is that so many of them have a ton of filler type ingredients so the dog will actually have to eat more of it to get any nutritional value out of it. So you may pay more per pound for the better foods, but will find yourself feeding less of it per feeding. Keep in mind also though, more expensive does not always mean better, check the ingredients. http://www.goliathmastiffs.com/food.html is a website that I found out a ton about English Mastiff diet information from.

Beautiful boy by the way!! Our boy will be 2 in April. I also sometimes look at ours and think, wow he looks kind of skinny, but every trip to the vet he is very slowly gaining a lil bit of weight at a time and our vet says he is in great shape. I'm not positive on this, but I believe by around 2 he may be about as tall as he is going to get, but will continue to fill out for up to another year.
