Two questions. 1 food aggression and 1 raw diet portion

Thanks musicdeb! He is very stubborn with the crate. I'm doing my best for him and willing to do whatever is best. However I'm putting him in the crate at night from 10pm till 5.30am. Is this too damaging to his "mental".

Ps. He is a Central Asian Ovcharka breed.

Remember consistency with motivational rewares and patience are key in training.

A puppy at 11-12 weeks of age should be allowed to go potty every 2-3 hours. Asking him to hold it from 10pm-5:30am could cause him to get an urinary tract infection. That is the reason he is going potty in the pen, he can't hold it that long.

For some reason I thought you had a Cane Corso. I believe we have another member with a CAO but I do not remember the name.

I had to look up the temperament of the CAO. This is what I found.

Independent, they stand their ground and do not back down. They are good with all members of their own family, however, they should be supervised with children. Outside the home they may try to dominate other dogs and are wary of strangers; they are guardians and will act as such. They like to bark at night and this may present a problem if you have close neighbors.Socialization is a must for the Central Asians, unless they are being used as flock guards.

They need an owner who understands the flock guard type and the temperament that comes along with it. This is not a breed for the timid or meek owner.

The Central Asian Ovtcharka requires a large yard, the larger the better, with a fence. They have a job to do (guarding). Small living conditions can lead to boredom and thus digging and chewing will be a problem. Even with lots of exercise these dogs like to be outdoors watching over their territory. They must have a securely fenced yard or they will expand their territory as far as they can.

The CAS would be great for the person who hikes or jogs. On days they are not taken for a hike or a jog, they need a daily, long walk. They may appear to be lazy when they are lying down watching their property, but they can be up and running in a split second.

Yes, we understood that he couldn't hold the potty that long. I took out the water 3 hours before bed time and he doesn't have problem with potty. So far no accident.

My first experience with this forum was with cane corso breeder from tx hence the member name.

We are walking him 7 times a day and he is such a nice walker. I think it is due to the breed's temperament.

We are very happy that he is responding very well with the food aggression. There isn't anymore. But, we are still touching and training him every time. Now, it is the crate training that would be our main goal.

He responds well with sit, down, walk, stand and come very well for his age. He is more motivated by praise then treat unless the treat is of canned meat. We are using the commands to fit in our daily routine.

You are absolutely correct with the temperament. The pup would just stop and stare the strangers without barking and woulda move only when the stranger walks away. I am trying to socialise him with all the distraction but I doubt it would be gone completely as it is the dog's trait.

Update. Took the puppy for his third vaccination and the vet strongly against raw diet. Mentioned the bacteria will kill the dog.

Also, he suggested to give rabies injection at 3 months. The breeder said 4 month. Any experience?

Generally, 99% of vets are against raw diet because they do not understand it. The pup will be find on raw diet. My own vet is against raw diet. :(

The bacteria will not kill the pup. There are numerous dog food recalls due to bacteria and very few meat recalls.

I believe rabies injection can be given between 3-4 months. I agree with the 4 months.

Go with your gut and do what is best for your pup and you.

The puppy hasn't been eating full portion again, slightly loose still and vomited. Not energetic. It happened once.

The internet mentioned to monitor if there will be consecutive vomiting before the vet. Would it be an effect from the 3rd vaccination combined with raw diet?

It's probably the shots he was given. Is he drinking water? It's important that he stay hydrated. Not eating is ok for a few days, as long as he is drinking water and going potty normally.

Very doubtful the raw diet has anything to do with it but very possible it is the vaccinations.

Call the vet and tell him that he has been vomiting and loose stools and ask if the vaccination could be causing it.

I'm sorry the vet has planted doubt in your mind about the raw diet. :(

I have no doubt with the raw food. The puppy has begin to eat the whole chicken thigh/ drumstick.

He was still okay last night. Yesterday, he did not finish his chicken back with meat. Although he peed, he is not interested in walking in this morning and not eating his breakfast so I took it from the bowl. I do believe that even puppy could survive skipping a meal or not.

His vomiting yellow which might reason to hunger or blockage from eating too fast.

I tried giving him the raw chicken to his nose but he is not interested I am now trying to make rice with canned tuna.

I would resort to the vet in an hour or so if no response from him.

Vomiting yellow is bile which means his stomach was empty so he vomited bile. Feed him some boiled white rice and boiled meat to settle his stomach.

If he's vomiting bile due to hunger, he should be ok once he eats something. I'm glad to hear the vet did not plant doubt re: raw diet. :)

Thanks. Spoke to one of the assistance from the vet. She said it could be the reaction from the vaccination.

When should I start feeding raw food again? We took him out to potty and he was active again, walking, not running.

Start him on raw once the diarrhea stops, continue to feed him boiled white rice with boiled meat usually for 4-5 days. If you want, you can add 1 teaspoon of pumpkin (not the pie filling) to help with diarrhea too but rice and meat usually does the trick.

Glad he is going potty and active again! :)

The funny thing or not so funny is that he ate only about half of 100g of rice with tuna/chicken. Playing with toys now. He eats when I hand fed him.

I like to leave the food at his place but I do not like the idea of him having to know that he could just leave the food and go back to it later. Bad habit. Never going to happen with my previous dogs.

Can I take the food away or bear with him based on his situation?

Quick question, I noticed blood stain from eating raw food at the lips of puppy. What are your experiences?

Leaving the food down for 20 minutes and if not eaten, stored until next feeding, is a good practice. This teaches the pup that you control what he eats and when he eats.

You may want to allow him to start eating from the bowl so he does not become used to you hand feeding him all of the time. Make him sit and watch you prepare the food and watch you place it in the bowl. Once the food is in the bowl, then tell him to eat.

Blood stain is from the raw meat. You may even notice some blood in his poop which also can be normal as long as it a little bit of blood and it only happens 1 or 2 times. A lot of blood, especially bright red blood, is not good or diarrhea with blood that has a rancid smell should be checked by the vet.

I find blood on the floor and Titan's mouth. I clean the area with 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water which kills the bacteria. Wipe his mouth with a wet rag with just water or spray the solution on the rage and then dry off his mouth with a dry rag.

Got it. Thanks!

He is very impatient to eat his breakfast. Left it in the crate but never really eat it. Went out of the crate playing and .... laying =)

Right! He made me feel like I am a noob even though I have raised dogs before. Thank you. Will keep it updated with introducing new meat source by next week. It would be turkey.
