2 yr old purebred female Fila Brasilerio in Southern Michigan will be euthanized in 4 days due to irresponsible ownership. This is my former roommates dog, who has done the bare minimum to care for, train and rehome her. The family has been forced to move from their house due to the landlord deciding to sell. I've been working with a local rescue organization for the past 3 weeks to line up a foster home for her. Unfortunately, after a mere 48 hours with an unprepared foster family, they have given up and the cop husband has taken her to their local animal shelter. She is extremely stressed due to the family moving out of the house around her (they moved out before the dog situation was taken care of and abandoned her for me to care for her). She has been showing signs of depression in the 48 hours she was with the foster family. Refusing to eat or drink anything and howling in her crate all night (she has spent longer than 24 hours straight in her crate before I was in residence and put a stop to it - so this is unusual, she's very used to her crate). It was also discovered at her very FIRST vet appointment (besides the breeder taking her as a puppy before selling her) that she is currently 125 lbs, has an ear infection and has been allergic to the generic, grocery store brand dog food her former owner had been feeding her. The poor girl is miserable. This is her last chance and I'm at a loss at what more to do for her but she really does have potential to be a great family dog if properly trained and with an alpha owner. Any help, advice or rescue references would be so greatly appreciated.
