Vet Keeps Dog Alive Despite Family’s Wishes

Tammy Bruce says three weeks ago, princess, a Dachsund, Chow, Lab Mix, swallowed a fish hook.
The family rushed their pet to the animal emergency center on Lake Underhill Road in Orange County but surgery would be costly, so Bruce chose to put the dog to sleep.
This week, her husband got an anonymous call saying that the animal was okay and with a new owner, an employee from the pet emergency room.
“He was stunned, here this whole time, we had been mourning our dog and she's not even dead,†said Bruce.
Veterinarian Holly Brown-Tabbenor says somehow the euthanasia form for Princess was misplaced.
“It was crying and scratching at its face, turning over in the cage, we just couldn't let it stay like that just because of a piece of paper,†said veterinarian Dr. Holly Brown-Tabbenor.
That piece of paper which is required by law was found the next morning.
Tabbenor believed the family had gone through enough after the decision to euthanize.
“In no way did we try to contact the owner but that was simply due to compassion for that owner's decision.â€
She also believes Princess' owners were not financially capable of taking care of her since they couldn't even pay for the $800 dollar surgery.
Bruce says she should have been given the option to pay in installments.
“Yea we just want her back.â€
