Walk around or step over?

So here is the scenario.
You are at the stove cooking a meal
You need another item from the pantry or refrigerator.
There is one or more mastiffs asleep or laying between the stove and the pantry or refrigerator.
Do you
Step over the mastiff or mastiffs
Walk around the mastiff or mastiffs
Make the mastiff or mastiffs move out of the way
Give up and figure out the dish will be good enough without the extra ingrediants.
I'm too dumb to figure out how to ask this in the form of a poll.

Chewie sleeps on my foot while I cook. So I do neither unless I step over and drag him along. I am blessed to be able to reach pretty much everywhere but the fridge. Otherwise I yell for someone to help. Doesn't matter if its the dog because if its not I have at least 2 kids under my feet in the kitchen at all times. :) I figure its the joy of cooking in a full house.

1. It depends on who it is, either Sunny, Ruby, or Ally. It wouldn't be Bella; she's too good to be in the kitchen waiting for food to drop. She lets me serve her in her favorite chair in the L. room (eye roll).
2. It depends on whether said dog is standing, sitting, laying down or down & asleep. Trying to step over Sunny while he's asleep is inviting disaster; if he wakes up while you're over him & he startles, jumps up to get out of the way, you're going to go flying. It's happened before.
3. Never make them move; they won't do it & I don't have the patience to stand there & fight with them about it. If I take a minute, point to the door, & tell Ruby "GO!" she will, with her tail between her legs :( , but she'll be back as soon as she gets over it.

This is bad but, I have been trained to step over while she is laying. Sometimes she will just sit in the kitchen and that's when I say move because I cannot step over while she is sitting.

I do a combination of all of these.
It is sometimes easier to go around and sometimes over sometimes (with the puppy) I just scoot her out of the way with my foot.
She thinks this is a new fun game and tries to wrap herself around my foot.
This makes me feel like an old time convict on a chain gang with a ball and chair around my ankle.

I, too, have been trained and do a combination of these moves. I never cook without the ingredient because I love to cook but I have stretched, stepped over, went around and nearly killed myself to get what it is I need without disrupting the dogs nap. :) FYI: They do know the Commands Move, get up, get out, etc. so it isn't that they WON'T, I just work around them. LOL On Thanksgiving, I cooked a ton of food that I had to set up buffet style around the counters in the kitchen and all of my children, their other halves and my grandchildren were here and every one of us, stepped over and around Ruger who was sleeping in the most inconveinent place on the floor. :)

Apollo's pretty good about finding the out of the way corner of the kitchen to be in, so if I need something I mostly just step over him, though I've had to make him move on occasion when he decided to sprawl infront of the stove. Arty on the other hand is forbidden the kitchen when I'm cooking as he'll ALWAYS manage to plant himself RIGHT where I'm going to step next, and having a Singer shriek every time I step on his paws is ear drum bursting, so no kitchen for Arty!

Pahahahahaha!! This thread is insane!!!

Boone isn't allowed in the kitchen either, so he sprawls at the entry. And he ain't moving unless the "stern" voice comes out. Most of the times, he makes such a puppy dog face, I don't have the heart to move him. So it's step over. Not that he will move even if I do!

If she is laying down I step over, unless she is right in front of the stove. That is too dangerous so then she has to move. If she is sitting looking at me I just tell her to move. Then I have to bump her and walk through her. Hmm, our manners are slipping.

If she is in front of the stove or the fridge she has to move. Which of course is where she ALWAYS has to lay.

I am used to stepping over my cement block that is Mateo.

However, if he is in front of the fridge, that's a must move situation. And that means not only a "move!" command, but a shove to get him started...

i normally have 3 or 4 of them in the kitchen with me, so i guess its all of the above lol step over, go around, bump them, step on them, slide them from infront of the fridge, remove their heads from the fridge a hundred times
