Tess is an English / Bullmastiff cross and quite possibly the most amazing dog I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I would rescue another in a heartbeat. Just go to big dogs huge paws rescue site, there's always plenty on there. Jovo, he's my lab pit cross, fantastic boy, he's my heart dog. I could never take offense to what Cody, or Mary or anyone else is saying about mixing these breeds, they know they make great family pets too.
but I wonder how many of the pups the BYB's will take back when the adopter decides the pup is too rambunctious, or they want to take a vacation and no one can look after it, or it ate all their furniture, or they had no idea what they were getting into, or they didn't clear it with the landlord first and shock! the landlord is going to kick them out if they dont get rid of the dog.
Are these BYB's screening or just taking the money and forgetting what's going out their door and to whom? Do they care if these pups are ever neutered or are the new owners free to breed at will?
I dont work for any rescue sites but I've seen my share of dogs that need homes. And while I wouldn't want to shame someone for an "oops litter", i also will not share in the congratulations of it. I would rather hope that people have the experience I did. Before coming on these forums I really didn't understand. I thought all breeders were just in it for the money, I would always have gone to rescue or a breeder who was giving away their pups for free. And papers! Wow must be a really amazing dog.
Course I used to think all Pit Bulls were devil dogs, and at one time, Dobermans used to turn on their owners cus their brains grew too big for their heads. That' was back in the 80's when they were the demon breed, but I hear that's the issue with pit bulls now. lol.
Most people dont know good breeders personally, so I think Im blessed to have been able to learn from them on these sites. So many good people I talk to just dont get it. But it isn't because they are jerks or stupid, they just haven't been exposed to the other side of it.
