Vet tried to scare us that it would be a blood bath, all over the walls, floors, etc,. Breeder told us it could be messy and they advocated the diaper route. So far we've decided to help her clean up by dabbing area frequently, wiping up floors as we find spots. We went to a second hand store and bought black sheets and blankets to cover our furniture and bed. The worst so far, and I can see this resulting in scrubbing walls down/or painting, is the welcome at the front door. That tail whipping back and forth just spreads it around.
Black Shadow Cane Corso told me that using a pair of men's underwear backwards and lined with feminine pads would be helpful. If the blood flow gets worse, we will try that.
We are going to continue the morning walk at 6:30 am. It's still dark and the only dog we encounter out then is her boyfriend Doc. Doc will be interested, but we will keep them apart. Neither dog parent really wants the stress of 12 - 15 puppies. Oh, they'd be cute, but reality bites. It's cruel that nature makes this possible before they are full grown.
The signs we saw before this became obvious was an increased neediness. She was always cling-on velcro dog, but then it became so desperate. We always had a love in in the bed before the lights went out, but now she wouldn't go to her own bed, and if she did, she'd sneak back and be sent away over and over again.
She took chewing/gnawing up to new heights: it's frenetic. Stuff that should be indestructible has been ripped to shreds.
Desperate eye contact, asking, asking, asking for...something! Sighing, sighing, sighing. Pacing aimlessly, almost like she's looking for something, then back to looking deep in my eyes and sighing some more. Sunday night was really bad, but we didn't see any blood until Friday, but there was evidence that it had been going on for at least a day before. We're somewhere in our first week.
So, three weeks of this? Hells Bells, this is going to be long.
