My Akita gets called a Husky all the time and for my TM I have had a, a German Sheppard mix, a Leonberger, and a Bernese Mountain Dog so far. Grrr!

When Apollo was a pup we heard a lot of "chow mix?"

Now, we've had a couple "st bernard mix?" but usually its just "What IS he?" as none of those other big fluffy breeds are common in my area either.

Arty gets alot of "basenji mix?" and occasionally "shiba mix?" Otherwise we just hear "he looks like a FOX!"

Not a lot of confusion. We used to get Great Dane, especially when she was going through her gangly stage. Now we get, "Bullmastiff, right?" Most people have no idea what an English Mastiff is when I tell them. Bullmastiffs are more common in my area so that is why I get the question. I love Bullmastiffs though so it doesn't bother me too much, I just politely correct them.

People usually recognize that Duchess is a mastiff & I will usually chime in & say "English Mastiff" to which they talk over me & say oh yeah yeah "English massive". Lol

I get "what kind of dog is that?" I tell them Dogue de Bordeaux and they say, "oh, ok" They have no idea what that is.

With Boris, many people recognise he's a mastiff. Otherwise, I usually just get 'what is he' questions. My harle Great Dylan was mistaken for: A giant pit bull and a giant dalmation

Believe it or not, just last week someone asked me if Jake was a pug, he's over 140 pounds! Usually I get boxer occasionally English Mastiff, but Bullmastiff's aren't very common in my area so a lot of people just ask what he is if they don't know.

My DDB has a red face and I have people ask if she is a pit. I guess it's the color of her nose that make people think that.

I get Great Dane alot now since he's in the gangly puppy stage. If it's not GD, then it's definitely a Bull Mastiff. I get the, "he's going to be huge, probably 120-140 lbs" and then I get to let them know they're guessing a little on the low side.

Great Dane because she's half weimaraner. So it makes her look like a small dane. Or a giant black lab when she was a pup. But her fur has lightened up to more of a dark chocolate with a black stripe down her back and faint brindle marks, so no one says lab anymore.

We had a pug when he was a baby, a pit or boxer when he was in that 6-9 month range and a Bullmastiff or Neo ever since. Funny, his paperwork says English Mastiff, but I'm the one who's wrong when someone doesn't agree with me on what he could be...
