What Kind of Dog is That?

You might be surprised about the puggle thing, I know of one mastiff owner who thought a puggle (pug x beagle) was a mastiff puppy and I had to look twice myself.

People are just stumped with Black Jack, I rarely have people guess, they just ask. Since I usually have them out together they tend to be drawn to him as he is more impressive in size. I do occasionally have people correct me when I say Cane Corso, I usually either get "oh you mean a Kane Korso/King Korso, my _______ has one of them" Then I smile, nod and continue on my way.

I get Bernese Mountain Dog the most (she does have the coloring but the structure is diff), saint cross or GS/Rott. 2 people have guessed right that she is a tm.

Funny, it has been Blue Nose Pit almost exclusively with Dharma (it's the grey brindle) until this week. Somehow, in a week she has gone from Pit to Presa. At least five people on the street have said, " Nice dog. Is it a Presa?" But they would say it and you could almost hear the wheels turning in their heads as they did. They don't approach. They look for a bit. They ask. Then they look for a bit more. The people who have no clue just go, "oh what a cute puppy" and proceed to do everything you shouldn't do when greeting a dog. The scary thing the number of people who after you tell them what she is go- View attachment 27518"Oh we want to get a Massive too."

Since no one really seems to know what a Fila Brasileiro is (at least around my area), my boys have been called lots of different breeds. The common ones are: Bullmastiff, Mastiff, Pit Bull, Mastiff mix, Great Dane or some type of Hound mix.

I will admit though, I refer to them as Brasilian Mastiff's every once in a while. It's easier, and people don't give me such weird looks. Especially when I'm not in the mood to chat, or they seem like weirdo people...

Have any other BM owners gotten pug? I have a few times. When Castle was 9 weeks old and 24 pounds, I suppose it was acceptable if you have NEVER SEEN a pug. He doesn’t have a curly tail and he isn't very brachocephalic either. But the worst one was a lady telling me he was the biggest pug she had ever seen. The contempt in my voice when I explained to the lady that no matter how fat a pug gets it will NEVER weigh 120 pounds and be 22 inches at the shoulders prompted her immediate apology. She then tried to tell me that she thought it looked like a pug. The glare I gave her prompted another apology and she left quickly afterwards. The funny thing, her 6 and 8 year old daughters were telling her that it WASN'T a pug because it was too big! At least they didn’t get their commonsense from her.

I love this thread!! Some of your replies have been hilarious! Oh man. Some people.
The one I get most is a boxer-cross. But I haven't heard it in a little while since Vito has started filling out a bit more.
The comments that really get to me are the ones from people who ask what breed he is and when I tell them he's a Cane Corso they say that their friend's cousin's roomate's hooker has a CANE (as in candy cane) Corso that is 5,000 lbs and 17 feet tall. I just smile and nod and say "well, breed standard says....." and don't push it. I really kind of want to choke them a little though. :p Vito is only 10 months old and is a good size already (90+lbs and 25.5" at the shoulders), so those comments kind of piss me off.

I do love it, though, when a French tourist (a lot of them here this summer) pronounces "Dogue de Bordeaux" with the perfect French accent, as they stop to pet my dog... :)

YES! I love that too! Of course in my situation it's when the Italian couple at our off-leash park make of Vito and perfectly say Cane Corso. Love it!

Haha, I read this after posting my reply! Maybe it's an Alberta thing?

this morning we were sitting outside and a guy walks by and asks me if Franklin is a bullmastiff. I said no and told him he was an EM. he just stares at me, then at Franklin, then asks me if I'm sure. Uh, yes, I'm sure. I know what kind of dog I have. He's an ENGLISH mastiff. His response? "nah man. I know my dogs. He's definitely a bullmastiff". My response? "c'mon Franklin, let's go inside". Lol

Last week a guy stopped to look at Titan and asked what kind of bull dog was he. I told him that he was a DDB and he gave me a weird look and drove off.

I was informed this morning that Kryten is a BM because he is too big to be an EM. When I said nope he's just a really big EM the guy said 'suit yourself, but you're wrong' and then drove off. I just rolled my eyes and finished Kryten's walk.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't know what kind of dog I have. Lol

I always answer chihuahua or pug the first time. Then I say EM after they give me "the look". The neighbor kids think Loki is a tiger cuz of his "strips" (picture below). One parent said he's a tiger and it kinda spread & stuck, so what ever.

Mostly people guess St Bernard and I nave no idea why other than his size (210-220lbs). 2nd is BM, but not one person has ever guess EM ever. One lady even asked if he was a pit and I literally asked her what was she smoking before I even came close to answering her. hehe
