As you can tell I mostly just lurk here but I thought I would chime in on this one.
I rescued Moe 5 years ago and I couldn't be happier that I did. I drove the 8 hours and had already told myself I would not leave without him. He was 2 years old then and had never been off a chain around a tree that only gave him about 2 feet to walk around. The lady that had him had about a 6 foot pole that she would put food in a dish and push out there to him. She said "She was afraid of him". WTF, then why would you get a dog if your afraid? She could not produce any vet records so I assume he had never even seen a vet at all. She said she tried to take him to a dog park once and he attacked a small dog. Well duh, if I was chained to a tree, for 2 years, I would probably want to attack anything too. I went outside where he was and he was just so timid. He would just sit there and look at me as if to say "Please get me out of here". So, off we went heading the 8 hours back. I knew he had not been leash trained so I'm talking to him trying to make a deal that if we stop for some food and water I would buy him 2 cheesburgers and that he would not drag me across a parking lot to go pee. (He's 180 lbs and I'm 5'2 and 100 lbs). That was not to be...
. I hooked up his leash, got out and opened the back door to the truck, he stepped out and OFF we went. I swear if someone had a video playing we would have won the America's Funniest Video contest. I did get him to calm down enough to let him pee, get his burgers and head the rest of the way back home.
He is my love, my companion, my protector and most of all my
best friend. I would love to have another but he is very dog aggressive and will not tolerate another animal around period.
Anyway, thanks for letting me share my story.
