Why might he be doing this?

Starting sometime Tuesday afternoon Kryten has become unwilling to walk thru the hallway between the computer room and the kitchen.
On Sunday I did remove the carpet in the computer room and replace it with vinyl tiles but he was normal until Tuesday. He is also fine going from the kitchen into the computer room (my bedroom is on the far side of the computer room) but he will stop and whine whenever he need to go the other way. If you go and get him he will sort of bolt thru the hall and then returns to normal. I've never seen him like this before and have no idea what might have caused it.

Is it just you two that live there, sounds like something happened in that spot to give him an aversion to the hall, could have been scared by something or even injured in someway like stepped on something sharp, the reason I asked if anyone else is in the home is maybe if you have kids they can do dumb things to dogs at times

I did ask the cats what they did to him. He lives with 2 humans (adult), 3 cats and 1 dog. We know he was normal when Vickey went to bed at noon but was 'stuck' when I got home at 5 pm.

My girl does that (hesitates then bolts) when she is scared of something. Maybe he slipped, who knows. I would get some boiled chicken or meat and do a trail of it through that spot. Have him eat from the floor on his own, then move the food farther apart and then have him walk a few steps with you facing him and give him a treat and then have him walk and give him the treat when he is all the way through. Should change the way he feels about that spot.

Sage the house, scatter salt throughout the hall way better yet salt the whole house.

He's getting much better. I think it might have something to do with the transition from the vinyl to linoleum, we put a small towel down in the entrance to the hall and most of the time there is no hesitation.
We do plan on getting an area rug for the computer room but as it was an unplanned change of flooring due to a leaking window and subsequent mold problem it might be a while. Maybe I need a small mat for the hallway too.

We put runner carpets down for Rhino. He hates walking on slick floors. We buy the cheapest rubber backed "by the foot" stuff from home depot and he loves it. He goes out of his way to walk on the carpet covered parts of our hardwood floor.
