Will rice pack the pounds on??

I am trying to get my girl to eat. She only eats about 3 cups if I just give her dry. If I give her wet she will eat a little more but gets bored quickly. When I had the extra money to buy really good canned food to mix in she was eating 6 cups a day and looked great! Now her back bone shows a little and her ribs show. She just eats enough to stay alive it seems like. If I add rice will that be too much carbs for her? Will it make her gain weight?

Rice won't really no. I'd suggest instead making a home-made chicken broth (or other meat broth if you can't do chicken), go easy on the seasonings and avoid onions and salt, and pour a cup or so over her kibble to entice her to eat instead.

That sounds stressful, my sister had a dog that only ate to survive. I have no idea if the rice will make her gain weight or really help the problem because rice is a fairly "empty calorie"

Do you think there is any underlying issue or is she just being picky? have you tried making a broth to put on it? Or maybe switching kibbles?

You don't want to know how many times I have switched kibble. haha. All high quality foods too. She's been a picky eater since from the start except when she started eating 6 cups a day for about a month. I was so happy. She is really active and playful so she seems healthy otherwise. I was thinking of taking her to the vet for a check up though. I have tried broth on her food but she gets bored of that. I tried plain greek yogurt which she liked for about 3 days. i just want something that I can afford on a weekly basis that will keep her interest. She's all about treats and any human food so I know it's just a picky thing. I rarely even give her treats though.

haha well, I got nothing for you then! ha im sorry, Stella went through a picky stage, same thing as your dog, she would just get bored of everything I tried to give her. Now she eats her meals without a fuss.

How long does she stay on one food before you change it? Maybe add some cooked hamburger or chicken (without the bone) to entice her.
