Window concerns

Hi- it's been some time since I posted but I'm needing some thoughts on this.
Today when we pulled into our driveway (around 3pm), I saw that the blinds were askew in our large picture window. It was odd because I typically leave the blinds 1/4 up to let Brinks (our 5 yr old EM, 185lbs) look out the window. (He likes to sit with his face on the window ledge & his butt in the chair). After going inside and inspecting the blinds, I noticed Brinks had JUMPED on the window (slobber and paw prints were visible but dry so it wasn't "fresh"). We also noticed that Brinks ran right outside and was sniffing/inspecting the front gate. It's NOT like him to behave this way- he has NEVER jumped on the window. He never jumps at all, even for a treat!
We live pretty far out into the country that we don't think it was an intruder (if it was they obviously left after seeing Brinks jump all over the window) but possibly deer who have become brave enough this year to travel up our driveway.
Either way, we are concerned that Brinks could have broken through the glass. My husband thinks we should leave the blinds closed completely so Brinks can't see outside but I fear that might make him anxious. We have delivery people and a dog walker who comes and goes with no problem (Brinks knows them) but if he can't see them approaching the door, would he react like this again?

What would you do? Close the blinds? Keep them open and hope it doesn't happen again?

After inspecting the gate Brinks didn't behave oddly or different. Maybe this was just a fluke? Looking forward to thoughts and others experiences.

We keep the window blinds open. If we do forget and leave them shut, Denna will either go to the bedroom and sleep (which she'll do anyway), or she'll nose around until she can get an eye-ball under the blinds to see out.

I would work on making the space around the window "safe", and also see if you can teach a stay "off" the window concept to Brinks.
I know if we needed to, we could lean a baby-gate up against the window and that would keep Denna far away from the window... she will not TOUCH a baby gate... (I don't remember instilling any trauma... but it's there).

I'm surprised this is a new thing at 5 years old, though... I might put up some security cameras, so you can see what triggered the 'jump'... you might be very glad he was there to make his presence known. :)

If it has only happened once I wouldn't be too worried. I leave the curtains open on most windows and those I don't they move aside in order to see out. I found that barking increased dramatically after I made it so that they couldn't move the curtains after Kryten's surgery when I was trying to remove all extra stimuli from his environment.
I agree that there was like you someone or something (local deer will stare at a dog through the window) that set him off. It could happen again but once he realized that there was no damage done he might not react that strongly again. The first time the deer stared at either dog they went ballistic after the deer left they checked the area out. The next time Kryten just stared back. Jiggers continues to bark but then he likes the sound of his own voice.

IS there anyway you can leave a recorder running in the room to see what he does, id leave them open, any noise outside and a blinds not going to stop him, it could've been someone up to no good.

Yep, this is my thought as well.

Baby gate! Yes- thank you DennasMom! I didn't think about leaning it against the window. Brinks also steers clear of the baby gate (it fell down 1 time and the sound must've freaked him out).
Good idea with cameras too. We have good watchful neighbors but would be nice to know what it was if they're not home.

So far so good- it hasn't happened again. Thank you everyone for your feedback!
