  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

lexa is nearly 14 weeks old and love taking her for walks but one thing concerns me is when we go out she dosnt leave our side, she never runs off and enjoys herself, we are finding my wife and i have to split up and call her between ourself to make her run and so called enjoy the time out, is this normal for her or is it somthing else,

Yes its completely normal, ours did the same and still does he's 5 months.. he doesn't stray to far off. Most of it's due to his nature the other is we kept him on a leash and used "stay-with" me for weeks, small bits at a time between play.

I wouldn't try to discourage that.. its a good thing =) She will break away when she is ready..

when we are out on a open grass area we never leave her on the lead and from day 1 it has been the same is that normal ? we never say " stay or heel " she just stays with us, all i want is for her to be happy and enjoy her self or is that just human nature or human thinking?

I like that Daisy doesn't run off on me. Keeps my level anxiety level down as I know how quickly they can run off. She does have the guarding thing down and I find hiking with the kids is fun but stressful for her. She feels torn, should she run with the kids or stay back with us. Usually, she will chase after the kids, run in front of them and then stand in their way until we catch up so the kids make sure that she is active while we are out. LOL.

I absolutly love the time when the puppy stays right with me or follows behind. It never lasts long enough. Denna was stuck to me like glue for the first few months. Now, she still likes to stick close about 75% of the time, at 6.5 months old... but will wander the rest of the time. When we go to the off-leash (fenced) park, she'll run off to play without looking back, but then checks in with me every 5 minutes or so... and gets a BIG reward for that every time! She does have some prey drive, so off leash in areas with small critters or birds can be a challenge now... we need to work more on the recall, for sure.

It's a Mastiff thing, there's a reason they call them velcrow dogs. If she wasn't "happy" or didn't trust you she more than likely wouldn't remain by your side, and its human nature most of the time to feel something is wrong when a dog doesn't act like the one's you've had before.

Out for a walk by himself Kryten will stay beside or behind me. If Jiggers is with us he is in front with him. It is only in the past couple of weeks that he has taken to running farther away when at the off leash. He turns 8 months on Friday.

Juno is the same way at 5 months. She will run to the neighbors whose yard connects with ours because she knows where the water bowl is for their dog. She'll run down, get a drink and run back. It's pretty funny actually. They have a little poodle or something so it's a small water bowl so i'm sure they wonder where the water goes. To Juno's defense, they brought it upon themselves.

Its a mastiff characteristic you should be happy your girl displays! All of my boys were easy in that respect. My current pup, however, wanders a little but never out of eyesight.

My girl wanders off but never much further than 20ft or so and then she stops to look back to make sure we are there and trotts off on her way for another few minutes and stops again etc, etc. Unless of course there is a rabbit to chase then its bye-bye...we do a lot of walking in woods and fields.

My dogs never leave my side. Some one opened the back gait once (has a lock on it now) and Aurora went to the front door lol.
These are home guardian breeds, they want to stay with you. It is more of a blessing I would say, especially after having a Boxer :p
Just get her out walking, if she has a dog friend she plays with she will. It is normal and nothing to worry about.

My Atlas doesn't ever want to leave my side when he is off leash. I take him out in the front yard with me, (backyard is fenced) and it is almost impossible for me to weed my flower beds because he is right on top of me the entire time. He will wander off to say hi to the neighbors if they come out, but he comes RIGHT back after a quick pet and hello.
