My 13 mos old boy is in the throes of adolescents. Sometimes he is all playful puppy and sometimes he experiments with adulthood, and sometimes he misjudges a situation and overacts. It's all a work in progress.
Yesterday, we were out for a walk in a local park and three men came canoeing down the river - they were loud and boisterous and seeing people floating by was a new experience for Zeke.
Zeke went into full alert, stood his ground, stuck out his chest, and just watched them. As they came closer to us, Zeke came over and stood in front of me (between me and the men) and continued to watch. I told it was all good and we could walk on, but he wasn't moving; not until he felt it was okay to did we move.
There was no uncertainty; no bravado - just total seriousness of purpose. It was truly humbling to experience.
