... how often have I heard people here tell newbies "if you don't want a 150lb dog doing it, don't let your 20lb puppy do it, either!"...

His methods with the mastiff looked kind, strong and effective, to me.
Empower the people to not be afraid, and let the dog relax.

"To get the treat [peanut butter], you must first give up the treat" - we use that one here, too. :)

Good training, IMO.

Good training. Reminds me of the episode with 2 great danes, skip to 17:00 for the dane sequence.
