Chuck - My CC puppy Skyler is very similar to your Kona in his behavior. I think it was Blackshadow who mentioned the Velcro effect in CC. But yeah Skyler likes to know where I am at any given moment. If I am out of eye sight for one second he is instantly looking for me, he can be in the middle of chewing on an awesome toy he loves but if I leave the room he drops the toy and searches for me. The whining and crying not fun at all, if I put Sky in his crate and leave the room he is fine, but if I am in the room or if I have just gotten home he starts whining immediately which escalates to barking if I don't come soon enough. It's funny his is crated on the second floor and if he hears me by the stairwell he will quiet immediately because he knows I will only appear when he is quiet but if I take too long the whining starts again. He is also very high energy, at first I tried to limit the amount of exercise he gets because I know growing puppies need their sleep but Sky seems to need less sleep than most and is ready and raring to go all the time, down time is not a concept he is all that familiar with. Ever since the day I got him at 8 weeks old he has been a super light sleeper in regards to me moving, he can seem dead to the world but if I get up or move around a bit he is instantly awake looking at me. Even in the middle of the night, if I wake up for whatever reason Sky starts whining for attention in his crate. I don't even have to move and he knows I am awake. One aspect I am glad I don't have to deal with the WMD that some dogs call a tail. I had a Pit Bull mix who had a long thin tail that felt like a bull whip, my mom even got bruises from once or twice and we never had anything on tables that were tail hight.
It seems to me that Corsi seem to be Fila 'Lite'. Anyone is free to correct me in this as I have never encountered a Fila, and only have a CC puppy. This is just the conclusion that I have drawn from reading of people's experiences and reading about the breeds. They seem to be pretty similar on the degree of their 'velcro-ness' and the area they vary the most, besides in looks, in is toleration of strangers dogs with the proper temperaments. Filas seem to view anything outside of their home unit as a threat, even people they have met before and from what I have read this is pretty consistent dog to dog. CC can be taught to accept/tolerate new people
IF their owner tells them it is OK, the degree of toleration in the dog seems to vary in degree along different lines and such but even when they are confronted with someone they view as a threat they are more likely to sit/stand in front of the owner and stare or bark rather then lunge right away like the Fila. Has any one owned both breeds? If so I would love to hear about it and your thoughts one the similarities. Maybe if someone is apprehensive about getting a Fila or if they live in a more populated area they could try a CC, kind of like training wheels, LMAO. That is not to say CC are easy dogs by any means but like I said they seem to have many of the same characteristics with CC being not as hard as a Fila in regards to stangers. Again I am not an expert in any way shape or form so corrections are welcome from voices of experience.
Sorry for the long somewhat OT post, it seems to be something of a bad habit of mine
I tend to get long winded and wordy when I feel strongly about something or 'think' I know about something. Rugers-Kris it sounds like you totally know what you are doing and I wish you luck in finding the right Fila for you.
