Hi all, This is my firfst official post... TOTALLY can relate. My brindle boy Octane when he was 10wks till 4mo LOVED to eat socks, then wash rags, then dish towels. We started finding baby socks in Landmines. Rule in the house (with 5 kids) became absolutely NO socks off feet. If so then they go straight to laundry basket. Still finding random sock turds. 3 wks realized wich pup it was. That dog was like a hoover vac when he seen cloth material on the ground (other pup was more of the chewer on hard items, never ate em) finally the sock rule was working and after a month, one day I noticed Octane was dry heaving, drinking water then a few min later dry heaving and had water runs. My hubby rushed him in 15min b4 vet closed they checked him out gave pills and sent him home. Told him it's probably a blockage and if he wasn't better by noon next day (when they closed) bring him in and they will try x-ray. Told my hubby that if it was cloth material most likely wouldn't see it in x-ray. I was not comfey about this. Through the night he looked so sad and uncomfy. I called my neighbor who's a vet and told her what was going on and the reaction from the vet we use. We rushed him to her clinic (Sat during her kids bball game) and she x-rayed his belly. WOW, a blockage that was similar to a paper towel roll. She rushed him into surgery. She removed an adult, man's green work glove! WHOLE. no chew marks what so ever. We've never seen a glove like that, we don't own any gloves like that, plus all of our gloves were still put away in a rubbermaid for winter. Octane recovered wonderfully. Never again did we return to the original vet. (shoulda realized that after our labor/delivery issues with Abby) .... Learned an AWESOME trick to break the habit Octane had. Just because he got plugged up, was in pain, slowly dying, had to be cut open and not allowed to play for 2 wks, he didn't learn his lesson. I tested his reflexes and reaction if a sock was dropped in front of him. That dog is quick, just dashed right over to it and sucked it up (I was on guard waiting to snatch it out) new vet had me blend up some hot peppers and a habenaro (ie:sp) stain the juice and soak the sock in it. Perfect trap, after 2 tries he looks away and refuses to even sniff a sock, dish towel, diaper rag etc. But we still keep the sock rule in place for the kids... You never know when he gets a craving for a sweet morsel of nasty socks
