EM Breeder Discussion

If a breeder doesn't health test, would you still consider them a quality breeder and worthy of being endorsed here?

Yeah maybe. I'm kind of new to all of this so I'm not too quick to judge. I got Lincoln from what I think most would consider a BYB who didn't do health testing.

If they have good dogs we could add them to the list. I plan to do a small write up about each breeder on the list, and I would just note in my comments that they do not do health testing. I have Rockport on the list and they don't test.

I wouldn't personally buy from someone who doesn't health test, but if you think the rest of their qualifications are good I don't nessecarly see a problem with listing them as long as its noted that they don't test so people know.

I would definately look at other factors. St. Patricks mastiffs, for example, they have beautiful dogs, great lines and its obvious the breed and it's well being are high on their priority list but have controversial views on testing. I love old school mastiffs by the way..

nice dogs and the owner is a bigtime raw advocate and sells raw complete formulas to the general public for a reasonable cost.

^Are they still breeding? When I look at their litters they have dates in '08 and '09?

They are still active in the community, I cant answer as a fact but I think they do, when there is a good reason for it. I know he makes and sells Bid Dog Natural Raw, which I will be transitioning to in the next few weeks. I see the last planned breeding on their webiste was with a St. Pat's dog, what i would give for a boy from that pair...

WalnutCrest has some beautiful dogs as well.

I pretty much like all breeders listed here. There are many more that are not listed.

Walnut crest has a nice up-coming litter along with Glacier mastiffs. I have a Sherwood dog at my house right now who is beautiful. If you want to check out more breeders go to mastiffs.org, or REMC,and of course the MCOA.

Since we are getting quite a list here I think its would be best to say that all these breeders listed are not necessarily to my knowledge reputable breeders. I am not saying that they are not but I am not saying that they are. It is in my opinion more of a starting point and list for comparison of what you are looking for in a breeder. As always, do you research, ask questions and use this as a tool to find breeders then decide which you feel is the best suited for you. I just don't want anyone to think that because they end up on this list it means they are doing what's best for the breed. If someone wants do do the extensive research it would take to say without a doubt all these breeders are good breeders then the list could be claimed as such.

Are you volunteering for the job? haha. I agree. This should be a starting point for people to see different kennels and get a good idea of what they want. It's not the end all and be all of EM breeders.

Heck no!! It would take hours and hours and hours of work to be at a point that I would put my name on it.

Welcome to my life! I'm not opposed to doing it at some point, but a couple other things to take care of before that. For now this is a great resource for people who have no idea where to start.

That's what this thread is for. To gather a list and discuss them. Once this thread has run it's course (weeks, months, whatever) I plan to take all of the breeders listed in this thread and create a new thread, organized by region (state, country).

I'm really hoping if there's a breeder listed in this thread who people really wouldn't recommend, those people would speak up about why not so I can either remove them from the list or put a disclaimer in the comments about that breeder.

At this point, I'm just trying to get a list and we can trim it and qualify it later.

I personally plan to review each breeder's site to gather as much information about their motives and breeding process as I can from their website. I'm no expert though, so any input I can get from other people would help greatly.

I think this thread is an awesome idea & would like to see a thread similar for CCs & maybe other mastiff breeds as well. I'm not volunteering though! Lol :) I'm not qualified to make educated decisions as to which breeders should be on the list
