  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

10 week old French Mastiff pup

Kujo

Kujo is 5.5 months old now (55 pounds) and he still is a very light eater. He eats about 5 cups a day now (when we first got him at 3 months old it was maybe 2 cups a day) and always spread out, never a whole meal at one time. When I see his bowl is empty, I'll refill it. It's really nice not having to monitor every single meal he has, he doesn't over eat, and he's in excellent health, perfect body condition.

At first I was a little concerned, like you are now, I thought he wasn't eating enough and I SHOULD get him on a schedule. I asked my vet about this, and he said just keep doing what I'm doing, let him free eat, if it becomes an issue of over eating then we will have to change our ways, but he monitors himself really well.

Also, congrats on such a cute puppy!

Jenny- I also heard that he died of bloat at 2.5 years, but then a DDB breeder in New Jersey told me that it was a lie- that the truth was he had a genetic heart condition that nobody wants to talk about... Not only that, but that many of his offspring also died early due to this condition--- and to watch out for my Dogue; he may have inherited this same condition.

To be honest, I think this breeder was just spreading propaganda---and seemed to talk down other DDB breeders as a competitive thing. I do know Mateo's mother (daughter of Bam-Bam) is still going strong and healthy as ever...as is my Dogue.

Have you heard any such gossip about Bam-Bam?

I can talk to Bam Bam's breeder if you want and see if I can find out the story?

I hadn't even heard he had passed ...or at least I don't remember hearing it.

DDBsR4ME it would if you could fond out for us, i read about the bloat from his web site, i hope its true not a hart problem gypsys mum is one of his babys she is healthy when i last sore her when i pick gypsy up, no health problems even after a litter of 9 puppys all strong babys

The breeder I bought from had a son from Bam-bam (mines dad) who is 4 years old
And no problems at all. She also had one of bam-bam's daughters who was 3 and also
Doing fine. Neither one had any issues.

He has started eating a little more so that makes me feel much better. How
Much is your eating per day?
2.5c a day but I think I may up it at we split it 1c in am 1c in pm and 1/2c before bed and each time he scarfs it right down and will come back and lick his empty bowl later on again so maybe he is hungry?

I heard back from Bam Bam's breeder and she confirmed that he died of bloat and had no known heart condition. I figure if anyone would know, his breeder would!

Thanks for the info, DDBsR4Me. I have just seen the underside of the breeding world; this guy couldn't trash-talk fast enough about other breeders, spreading lies and rumours... Of course, his breeding stock is beyond reproach....ugh.

That's good news that it wasn't his heart (although dying by bloat is horrible ...)
