17 month male Fila friendly towards people

I took my 17m male fila to a dog groomer today for first visit. She sweet talked him and he licked her and behaved real sweet. Is this typical for a Fila? He still acts like a pup.

NO! It is rare but some don't come in to their temp. as late as around 2. Then again some never come in to their temperament.

Not typical!! Be very careful , do not get comfortable he can change at anytime. Next time he sees her he may want to eat her, so be very cautious and advise her to do the same. He could stay like this forever, doubt it though . My friends girl from esha beta was 4 when her temp kicked in, then she was a very scary girl.

Filas are not suppose to act that way. Best be safe to have her keep her away from biting distance, use a muzzle, and control the head.

Thank you all for your input I will proceed with caution and hope I didn't get one of the exceptions.

Where did you get him? What were his parents temperament? My fila never showed distrust of strangers.

Lions Den in southern California. Supposedly his parents were "Bazooka" Sire and "Cobra" Dam. I never received paperwork and picked him up in a Denny's parking lot.

The way I understand it, they used to have good dogs. They still have some good temperament dogs. But if the dog hasn't showed nothing by 17 mo then I don't think he will one day decide I don't like strangers, lol. The fila I had was a great dog but didn't have fila temperament. I walked outside one day and he was on his back getting his belly rubbed by a complete stranger

after 20+ yrs.with and around Filas, I beg to differ. Have seen more than a few get some degree of temp. show up after 2 yrs.of age.
Lions den is a puppy mill and that is all I am saying. My health does not need me getting upset going into detail about them.

My fila came from shoo-it's mtns in Tennessee. Good dog but zero aversion to strangers! I had to put him to sleep at age 6 due to bone cancer almost 3yrs ago. I'm getting another pup soon from lone wolf kennel. I hope my homework this time pays off!!

If you want a good fila, talk to forum member aceoutdoor. I hope you didn't buy your pup yet.

a fila who does not show ojeriza isn't a fila to my opinion, read the same thing from the same breeder recently:

For sale
No temperament- so she isn't a fila. A nice mastiff great for a pet home. Loving caring, protective, but no ojeriza. Comes with papers. Great pet dog, some might breed her I don't think she should be bred. 1k I spent over 6k on this dog. filaslionden.com she comes from oso x cleopatra. No need to research the breed as she is not a repensetation of the breed. She's more of a mastiff/ hound. Will protect, she's a type 2 dog.
I love this dog, need the funds for my ti...cket to suleim......
If interested call me or email me

Here is another picture of the love bug. The Caucasian Shepherd pup I have displays true guard dog temperament, almost too much for me. At not quite six months I take her out everyday and we have made some progress but she is very dog aggressive and has a high prey drive. She also doesn't like to be surprised and will bark and growl at humans as well. The past few nights when it has cooled my Fila all of the sudden began barking deeply and running around the property. Also over food between my other pup he sometimes displays a serious viciousness. Most of the time he is lazy guy. He behaves like a total puppy still. Wonder how he will turn out.
