DH brought home a new brush for Dante. It's the kind with little wire like spikes. While Dante enjoyed being brushed it didn't really seem that the brush was very useful, and even like it might be scratching him in a not pleasant way. So, preferred brush/comb that I could get on Amazon or regular pet supply store?

Also, my dogs smell :p within a few days of getting a bath. I'm not going to wash them weekly, so is there something I could spray on them to maintain clean smell in between baths? Maybe water with a drop of lavender EO?

We use a gentle oatmeal dog shampoo and will be adding oils to food soon as well.

Sounds like you got a slicker brush, not very effective on short hair unless it is very thick. At work and on Luke I use a simple shedding blade for horses I bought many years ago to get undercoat out.

I like plain old rubber horse curries. I rub briskly in small circles and they love it! Pulls out an amazing amount of dead hair too.

I use a regular, big comb (wide tooth). Re: smell, is it regular dog smell? What kind of odor? Is the skin show signs of flaking, bumps or redness?

Dogs have a smell and will not smell all pretty all of the time.

Thanks for the suggestions! We had that rubber one but it got lost in the move.

Deb, it's mostly dog smell but more so. Best we can figure is it's due to the 2 dogs wrestling daily and getting their slobber all over each other. I just want to keep it in check a little.

AH, slobber smell could be it.

I was going to suggest it might be from the food... something not agreeing with them... but dried slobber is a good bet. :)

We use the shedding blade most of the time. I think I'll try the rubber one, though, that sounds like a nice option. It worked well at getting hairs out of the car upholstery (including roof rug).

Just wanted to update. We got both the Kong rubber brush and the shedding blade. I rub him all over with the Kong and then brush off the fur with the blade. He LOVES it! And now we have dandruff. Tons. Gonna start adding oils to food. We have the salmon, coconut, and olive oil so I guess we'll blend those.
