5 month old corso question

Hey guys I have a 5 month old female cane corso who is the most laid back, sweetest puppy I have ever met. She is the perfect puppy considering I have 3 daughters under the age of 6. She hardly ever barks unless she is playfighting with dogs at the dog park. She doesnt bark at people that ring our bell or pass the front of the house---does this mean she is not destined to be a good watch dog? And im not looking for her to maul an intruder-i will take care of that, but im hoping she will at least scare and intruder. Thoughts?

From everything I've read and experienced with my own mastiff, 5 months is just before guarding instincts start to kick in. I'd be willing to bet in the next couple months she'll start letting you know the wind picked up outside or a train went by. Mine sure does. =)

I had the exact same questions dont worry guarding instincts will kick in as she gets older.

Thanks for the input. That would make her the perfect dog. I know all pups are different but this is my first taste of the corso breed and I am flabbergasted at how well behaved she is. Ive put in the time to train her but she is so good and playful, and loving for such a young girl. I will never own a different breed.

I did hope you were warned how addictive the breed is prior to getting her :D

Our 9 month EM thinks the door only opens for best friends. :)

Last night, she did huff and puff and bark a little at something out the front window, but we didn't see anything... so she got told to be quiet. Our bad... we had a delivery get dropped off on the front porch. She saw it happen, we didn't. Oops. Hope we're not training the guardian out of her. As an EM, I don't think it's as strong as the CC's in the first place.

It definitely was just a "hey... something's out there" bark, versus a "GET OFF MY PORCH" bark.

I have read that some CCs don't start guarding until they are fully mature, ~2 yrs. I doubt it will take that long but it gives you an idea of the time it can take. It also seems like more confident dogs come into their guarding later, I know my CC is not very confident, we've been working on it, and he has been guarding since he was about 3 months. It sound like you have a very stable well socialized pup, congrats and hopefully she will find her bark soon.
