A Few Pics of Mateo During a Free Swim at Therapy

I included these at the end of my long post about his ACL thread, but it was getting quite long, so i thought I would throw a few photos up in a new thread.

Plus, it's always fun to see dogs in the water. :)

Yeah, I think he was enjoying the swim- he's a little water bug. :)

Also, he loves water; he plunged right in without hesitation. Good thing, because the water therapy is going to help him a lot. So, it's fun, but work as well...

Love that boy of yours!!!! And that head I swear has gotten bigger!!!

How is Mateo feeling?

Thanks, cr! I am fairly sure his head hasn't gotten any bigger...it's still the size of a basketball. :D

He is slowly making improvement, I believe, and doesn't seem to be in much pain (although it's hard to tell- he's the most stoic Dogue...) but I have him on some homeopathic pain meds, and a lot of supplements. It's really boredom that I am having to deal with--- this boy likes his adventure!

He just looks so happy! I love his big smiling face.

Thanks, Q. He seemed rather proud of himself, LOL.

By the way, I expect more pics of Angus in the pool when you go next!

I will definitely get some more pictures of Angus. I just hope that one day throughout this journey he decides that he likes swimming as much as Mateo does! Angus' main issue is that he doesn't like to be touched or handled by strangers, but due to insurance reasons, I cannot get into the pool to help work with Angus.

That's understandable.

I understand policies and such, but sometimes rules don't make much practical sense...

I know. It's kind of silly and I think he would do better with me in the water. I think he would be more willing to swim and possibly play. Luckily, he just gets defiant and stubborn with strangers and doesn't act out aggressively. He has a, "you can't tell me what to do and I don't have to listen to you" attitude with anyone but me. :p

Thank you! Such a shame, with the Atlantic being so big and all, that you may not get a chance to meet Mateo- or even worse, that I won't get to meet Gandalf and Budkiss...

I am trying everything I can to avoid surgery; all good thoughts are appreciated. :)

Yeh what a head! Examples like Mateo make me want a DDB, especially those photos of him in the mud. Such a lad.

When I get my EM, I think I will try and take them swimming as much as possible. These big boned dogs need their muscle mass and need to train their muscles to work right, otherwise later in life they will be too heavy for weak joints.

I don't know much about NFL, but I'm assuming Mateo did his ACL as a line backer?

Thank you-- he is quite a lad, that is for sure. :)

And good on you for thinking ahead for your future mastiff and swimming- I believe it will help a lot. In fact, one of the therapists at the pool place has a Leonberger who weighs 160 pounds. From the moment she brought him home, she had him in the pool...and now at 4 years, his joints are in perfect shape, with no issues at all.

And, no...no fancy linebacker action, LOL. It was more likely just a series of not so careful moves, and acting like he's an agile Border Collie rather than a thick, big-headed Dogue...

Looks like he was having a blast...and like others have said, his head looks huge in that first picture. :)

He is a fan of the wet, that's for sure...in any form. :)

His head is big. I guess I have gotten so used to him and his size that it's not something I notice anymore. You know, that "mastiff vision" thing...
