A new mom of a presa

Two weeks ago, I bought a presa canario puppy after thinking about it for a year or so. My son is 10 and I am a horse trainer with my work. We are in love.

I love on an acreage and she goes to a puppy kindergarten of sorts for a few hours in the morning to get used to other dogs. My friend is a dog trainer and my little girl is getting used to not always getting her way.

She now sits, shakes both paws by name and whines at the door to go outside. She has good recall both on and off the leash and she knows the growl I use with horses to show my displeasure and I see the respect in her eyes for me.

She comes to work with me each day and she has a good fear of horses that is good for her right now. She will get confident around them as she learns to accept them.

This presa sleeps on the floor right beside my bed and she whines when I go into the bathroom and I shut the door. Lol
I see the guarding already and when she starts growling about something outside, I take her down the stairs and I let her go check it out. I think her experiencing tons is key to her confidence. She already knows going through the java drive-through gets her treats and that is so good for her.

I am hoping to learn lots about my puppy here and I will post some pics.

The sweet pea has a voracious appetite though. Wow

This is my little girl watching me working around horses. She knows enough to lay outside of the round pen gate and she waits until I am done and walks behind the horse at a safe distance. I just got her 2nd set of shots and she is already 37 pounds at 11 weeks.

I also want to ask if other presa moms notice them loving the water? Mine is always jumping into horse water troughs and loves it when the hose is on. We live 5 minutes from the ocean and she is always trying to go into my swimming pool. There are 4 dogs at the barn where I work and she loves them all.

She is adorable! Is it hot where you live? She may like the water to cool her off. Be aware that some mastiffs sink like rocks in water. I would advise putting a life vest on her until she see how she does in the high water.

I am on the west coast of canada. Although it's 30c today, we are in a pretty mild climate. I've watched her in the water and she is like a fish. We have a pond on the property and she follows all the other dogs at work into it. We are a few minutes to the ocean so next week will be enough time for her 2nd set of shots to kick in so I'll see how she does there.
