Wow... Very sorry to hear this...
I don't know what could have caused it. Was he under sedation at the time?

Anesthesia can be very hard on the giant breeds. There are special protocols that should be followed. Most vets think they need more because they are so big, when in actuality they need less. I hate being crass but if you think your vet is at blame you need to ask questions as to what happened and I would ask for all records before I left the clinic.

I am very sorry for you loss.

I really think they over-sedated him. They waived all charges and are paying for cremation. I don't think they did the pre-sedation blood work. Looking for veterinary malpractice attorney in NY now. Don't want any $, but I'm so sad and frustrated that this could happen to our pup.

Man that's tough. It does sound like they gave him too much & it's infuriating that they didn't run a panel prior to giving him sedation. If he had an underlying issue that bloodwork could've detected, they could've prevented his death. Ugh. I am so sorry for your loss.

I know it is too late to help here but when I got Odi he came with a page in his paperwork that said something about a guide for sedation with Boerboels/Mastiffs. I made a copy and gave it to my vet to keep in Odi

I have seen it online but can't find it anymore. If I find it I will post in the health section. But basically it said go slow use less and bring out slow.

Again so sorry for your loss.

Oh I did find it and will post in the health section.

BTDT, lost a dog that was less than a year. I was too upset to know what to ask but nothing would bring my baby boy back. Soo sorry you are having to go through that.
