After twenty years

of smoking and ten years of two packs a day or more I have officially been three days without a cigarette. I am so pumped, have never even attempted to quit before. Every time I considered it I smoked more. I have never been able to go a half a day much less three, I have no doubt that I will never pick up a cigarette again. My daughter is gonna be soooo happy

That is beyond amazing!! High five man! My mom is weaning herself & smoking less so I hope in the near future she will also be cigarette free! My roommate cut cold turkey back in January & she's doing great. I have faith in you!

I did go cold turkey with the help of chantix. I couldnt wean myself because I knew if I didnt just take the plunge and quit I would never do it. In my mind if I had one that day the day to quit was ruined and I'd have a pack. I quit after two weeks on chantix, they say you can quit after one week but I'm not a good quitter lol..

Congrats!! I quit almost 6 years ago with chantix and then started back up about 6 months ago...but I went to the doctor and got another script today I'll be right there with ya very soon!

Thanks!!, I never thought I could do it, now that I made it through the first day I know I'm done. I still think about them obviously but have no desire to smoke. They have controlled my life long enough...

I'm picking up wellbutrin. Next week to help me quit. Weaning never worked for me I think I smoke more when I tried that. I fear for the others around me when I do quit.

LOL, I was afraid I would be a total asshole but honestly I am so glad and proud of myself i'm actually in a great mood. The chantix blocks the physical addiction it's the mental that was so hard. I couldnt wean either, the thought of quitting made me smoke twice as much. I just had to say eff it I'm done, I want to breath and see my daughter graduate. I have been a heavy heavy smoker for years.

I'm curious about this chantix. I've heard about some pretty awful side effects. My dad is showing a lot of interest getting a script for it but I worry bc he lives alone & the thought of him having any suicidal thoughts scares me. Did you guys that have taken it experience anything like that?

I'm the same way I lost my mom due mostly to smoking and I don't want my boys to go thru what I did. It's worse now that I'm home and can smoke when I want to. My boys get on me too about smoking. I want to be able to run with then and now feel like my heart is gonna come outta my chest. You have plenty of support here if and when you need it!

I was worried about that also but the only suicidal thoughts I had stemmed from the thought of never having a cig again lol, jk.. I do seem to recall my dreams more than usual but other than that no, nothing crazy...I'm really just so happy that I finally put them down. I'm already looking for a new bike to spend the money on that I'm going to save hahahaha

I didn't do the wellbutrin because I'm trying to lose weight not gain it lol and the Dr. said it only has a 15% success rate compared to chantix 45-50. I honestly don't feel any depressing side affects but everyone is different.

Wow congrats on your success. I'm not a smoker ( can't stand the smell) but its definatley a big accomplishment.

My Dr. said to take it for a month after I quit.

I live outside of Austin and they average 7$ a pack but I work overseas and usually get them much cheaper. I smoked 2-3 packs a day, closer to three at work.
