Allergy maybe?

Guys,

My boy is 6 months old and very healthy all bar one thing, he gets tear stains which come and go randomly which means I think something in his diet may be the cause. He is fed 3 meals a day consisting of raw meats and chopped veggies. The meats are all quality and mixed with tripe, he has chicken, turkey, lamb and beef with organ meats and fished added 3 times a week. The veg is all fresh and is varied, I have tried eliminating things from his diet to pin it down but am having no luck.

Anyone had similar symptoms?
Thanks,
Neil

Our DDB is allergic to chicken and wheat, but her eyes don't get goopy from it - she gets hive pimples. Our friend's Neo has seasonal allergies to pollens and stuff, and she gets terrible eye goo when she's been around those plants. Maybe others here will have more help to offer.

True food allergies (as opposed to intolerances) are actually quite rare. I'm guessing it's atopic - airborne response to pollen, mold, something like that. That is much more common, especially during a change in season. I had a Rottweiler with bad atopic allergies, they pretty much disappeared during our long cold winters here, but came and went all during grass and pollen season. Itchy watery eyes, itchy skin, goopy ears, etc. Pretty much all we could do was manage symptoms to keep her comfortable (and she was also on a raw diet.)

I used Systane brand allergy eye relief drops, don't know if you can get it over there, but it worked really well.

Is he getting bone meal or bone in his diet?

Yes he gets bone in his meat, the chicken, lamb and beef minces include it, it's not too bad today, his eyes are clear but just tear tracked down his face. He is such a good boy though about having his face wiped and just sits there while I clean him with a warm flannel

I'd also guess it's airborne stuff - which could just be dirt/pollution or an actual plant/pollen issue.

Have you also looked to see how his eyelashes are doing?

Our last pup had an eyelash issue here, where the eyelash had grown in crocked, and was causing an irritation.
I added moisture with natural tears eye drops ("TheraTears" or equivalent) and that helped him a lot.
