Hi taking my mastiff to have his bits off in the morning, but i feel so guilty and not sure if it will change him at all.

Cutting any part off your dog is going to raise a huge range of opinions.
Some people crop ears and don't neuter. Some neuter but don't dock.

Only my personal opinion if your pup has done all his growing and you don't intend to breed them yes I'd neuter.
It MIGHT settle him down a little and it's believed it can lower the chances of certain cancers. But like I said that's an accepted opinion around here. Some people wouldn't dream of having an "incomplete" boy.

I feel your pain though. It broke my heart to have my lad done. I was crying and apologising to him as the vet dragged me away haha.

Just remember, they don't see their testicles with as much fondness as we see ours.

I actually spent the night before showing him pics of pretty girl dogs and giving him a pep talk about why I was doing it. Stupid I know.

Thanks for the replies i think it's best because i will never breed with him. and i have a Staffie girl that he wont leave alone so have to keep them separate

PS i think he would be fully grown at 18 months, but i had my Rottie down at 12 and he still got big.

Yeah 18 months to 2 years to grow. Up not out haha. Max is 10 and still gets bigger (well, rounder).
Even at his age he showed changes when done. He was 9 when he got the snip. He baca me calmer and started accepting bitches as friends. He still is not so good with larger male dogs but he's more than happy to walk with the ladies.

9years. He's a rescue.
You MAY see some change and at his age that's more likely but remember that his behaviour is habit as much as hormones.

He'll be fine. Don't stress too much about it.
Not sure if you are male or female your self but have a pair of old pants ready with a hole cut in for his tail.
It's the only way I found worked to keep him off his stitches at night.
Buster collar never stood a chance.

I had Jake done at 18 months. There was no change at all in his personality, he's still as sweet as he ever was and still tries to hump his toys and occasionally the cat. He did continue to fill out after that until he was 3. I felt horrible taking him in to get it done and actually cried when the vet called to say the surgery was done and he was fine. He never touched his stitches so he didn't need a cone of shame either.

It's a tough decision to make. With a cat I have never hesitated to have them spayed or neutered, but when I had my dog done it was a big decision. A lot of that decision was made for me because I signed a contract with the breeder that I would have him fixed by 12 months, but because the breeder knows better he told us to wait until he was 18-24 months. If you feel that you need to have him done in the future you still can have it done, but it is a choice that I don't think anyone will fault you for.

I had 2 dogs before I got Bunchy my CC and I never thought twice about them getting fixed. Granted both were bought when I was still living at home, the second when I was about 19. But with Bunchy I am having serious thoughts about not doing it and get into a daily debate with the wife about whether or not we should do it. He is 8 1/2 months and shes pushing now but I want to wait until he's at least a year. Something about me raising my big boy on my own and then doing it is hard for me.
