hi all,

for the general stuff (vaccines, checkups) we've used my regular vet. now that we want to get our female spayed, i want to find someone who is good with giant breeds (since it IS major surgery and all). does anyone have any recommendations on vets in the san jose, ca area? we've put it off for far too long, and we really want to get it done, since our male puppy is getting pretty big (we are NOT looking to have puppies here), and from everything i've read so far, 6months is too young to get him neutered.

thanks

Sorry I can't help. I'm in Texas but in your search make sure the vet you choose understands how sensitive the Mastiffs are to anesthesia.

Sorry Jello, I'm up in the northern part of the East Bay and my vet definitely isn't an expert on giant breeds. If you find one let me know. Hopefully I never need an expert, but it'd be nice to know one's around.

Nice to see another Bay Area Mastiff owner on here. I was convinced everyone here was from Texas or Canada! :)

lol, i know. everyone around me seems to have either small breeds (either chihuahuas or poms) or pit bulls. i like pit bulls and all, but there's hardly anything else in my area.

Hi! We live in San Jose!! But we take Dino to a vet in Menlo Park because couldn't find anything we liked in San Jose. Let me know if you'd like their info- I wouldn't say the specialize in giant breeds, but are quite used to them, and have a doctor there who does specialize in hip problems...

hi sabrina. sure, that would be great. we'd prefer something closer (obviously - she doesn't like long car rides much) but it can't hurt to have a backup.

Thanks!

OK yah the car ride always sucks...it's Mid-Peninsula Animal Hospital in Menlo Park (650) 325-5671...we drive Dino there in a crate and he is a lot calmer. We also board them there when we are away and they take such good care of them. I was referred to 2 different vets in San Jose by Cane Corso people, and didn't like either of them....

thanks! i think she'd freak out worse in a crate (she hasn't been in one since she was a puppy). if we can't find anything decent, closer, i'll probably just have my partner sit in the backseat with her.
