Anyone else see this? Dogs being used for shark bait? =[

Its a spoof. Well partly anyway. There was a guy in france done for animal cruelty but its not a nation wide thing. They do however use dead strays as shark bait, still gross but at least they are not live puppies!

What fags
@ Marrowshard

Well, whilst I'll agree that -- unless Alplatitsin comes from the UK and is making reference to a meatball or cigarette -- this can be construed as a pejorative term directed at a minority group. However, from my online gaming and overlistening to my 20-somthing kids and their friends (two of whom are gay and use the expression themselves), I have to deduce that the younger set now commonly use this word as a substitute for 'loser, jerk, idiot, a**,' etc.

But A, you may want to use some less 'sensitive' terms :)

Yes, I've heard the 20's somethings use the term quite frequently which means what Aplatitsin said, a holes. I believe we've become so sensitive to words that it can sometimes be quite difficult to express ourselves. We have to make sure that we say the right thing.

Musicdeb I agree society has definitely become more censored. Takes all the fun out of life, lol. At least to me. I've heard the word before check out the urban dictionary for those that don't know.

About the topic not surprising.....

@ Asplatitsin (and all)
The English stuff was actually a joke. What I said then was,

....which basically means, hey, it's cool....

Well, guess I just didn't realize how cool it was to be immature. Since the island is technically French but off the coast of Africa, which is the proper term for insulting the so-called fisherman: frog or n*gger? After all, frogs are just animals and since i've heard southerners use the n-word it must be just fine to toss around wherever, right?

Yes there is something called hypersensitivity, but there's also something called common sense which would normally dictate not being overtly rude in mixed company. At the ripe old age of 31, I guess my "hip factor" isn't as high as everyone elses. It's still fresh in my memory having my ass kicked at school by people who though it would be fun to torment a "pig's daughter". Didn't realize it was all in my head and I could've just chosen to "get hip" instead.

Silly me.

Marrow, our conversation was not intended to harm anyone. I feel very strongly that we should be able to have freedom of speech. We have been so conditioned to say the right thing. When something is said that hurts your feelings, then it is your right to say so. I do not believe Aplatitsin's remark was not intended to hurt anyone's feelings.

I am sorry that you had such a life experience and again I do not believe the remark was intended to hurt yours or anyone else's feelings.

Im 31 as well. Grew up in the midwest. Its pretty common still My friends all call each other that. None of us are actually of that sexual orientation. But its pretty common slang term has been since probably the late 90's. As far as the pig comment.Maybe he was giving them a hard time and that was there way of evening the score. Dunno Me and cops have never gotten along still dont like them to this day.

The point here is that just because something is common or "all my friends say it too" doesn't make it appropriate in general conversation. Honestly, if you're among close friends and everyone's familiar with your particular usage then who really cares? It's when it's directed at other people who might not share your view that it becomes a problem.
Do I know people hate cops? Of course. Does that change the fact that it's cruel to beat on a grade-schooler because of what her father does for a living? I should hope not. By that same token, someone shouldn't have to feel like they can't post here or are in any way unwelcome because of what others are saying. If I wandered into a post here using "bitch" to describe a (human) female, should I just laugh it off because my girlfriends and I call each other that? How about "whore"? Both are really common in chat rooms, gamespeak, etc. but that's doesn't mean I shouldn't care when someone aims one of those at me.
