I took a bit of a break from the forum while it was being upgraded and I am excited to see that it is revamped and up and running again, so I thought I'd post a quick Dane update.
Titan and Zephyr are doing well. They're best buds, they're way too rough on each other in equal measure, they eat and poop more than a reasonably sized horse, and they're mostly a lot of fun.
Titan is 16 months old, a bit over 34" at the shoulder and 140 lbs. I think that's where he'll stay, it has been a while since he has gained any height or weight. He's as close to perfect as dogs go - good with strangers, children, other dogs, other animals, listens well to commands, responds with excitement to training and has never really developed any adolescent brattiness.
Zephyr is 11 months old, 36.75" at the shoulder and 150 lbs. He is still growing height-wise, but I'm crossing my fingers he stops soon. His training is coming along more slowly than I'd like, but it appears as though his previous owners corrected him harshly for not understanding what they were asking, so he's hesitant to try new things and scared to do something wrong. He's also become incredibly dog reactive, to the point where I can no longer walk him on leash in my neighborhood because he terrifies people. I'm planning on riding out the wave of his adolescence and then heavily CCing his reactivity when he matures a bit more. I don't think he'll ever be as bomb proof as Titan, but I'm hoping he will improve with time.
And some photos!
I hope everyone is doing well and I'm glad to be back
