Bad news, good news?

Well I have been dreading posting this but it is time to let it out and take my lashings.

Bad news, 90% sure Jade is pregnant.
Good news, It was from Odi.

Last month on the 12th during her heat I put Jade away in her crate so I could take a shower. When I turned off the water I could hear a commotion in the house so I went to see and sure enough Odi and Jade were tied. I guess either Odi figured out the crate latch or I messed up and didn't latch it good. I pinned Odi and put pressure on his neck arteries and he lost the tie immediatly. I had hoped I prevented the pregnancy but I am pretty sure she wil have pups. She is growing a big belly, much larger than her false pregnancies from before and her titties are getting big.

I had decided before that I did not want to breed Jade and we were planning on breeding Odi with Jade's sister after we got them both health tested. But now here I am with a litter on the way and no tests. I am pretty bummed about it but Jade's breeder says she will help out with everything; so that is some comfort.

I hope that Jade does not run into problems as she has a double nipple teat that is swealling up badly and her vulva may be angled. I have to massage the teat every day to keep the swelling down or she gets uncomfortable. Poor girl is all mopy all the time right now too.

So there it is, flame and lash away if you must but I thought I had it in control.

Thanks for that.

At least they are 2 beautiful Boerboels and we might get a Tiger Stripe or Apricot brindle from this mating. They both come from fantastic healthy parents too.

I won't lash you either...much more concerned by the title it was with Duncan & Dozer. Things happen sometimes...and you're right, you have great dogs! Why had you chosen not to breed Jade?

Oh My! Duncan or Dozer as the daddy... wouldn't that have been interesting??? HA!!

Glad Odi was the culprit. I know you'll do right by Jade and the pups. Great news that Jade's breeder will help, too. Sounds like you might have some potential for complications, so I hope everything goes well and everyone comes through it healthy!!

LOL...not Duncan and Dozer as the daddy...more their age & health...my mind thought that was the bad news! Wasn't even thinking that, LOL. Then yes, glad it was Odi!

Thankfully D&D are not able to have pups. Those would be junkyard dogs or by the old world terms a true bandog. One that would be chained up all day only to be let loose at night to patrol the properties.
D&D are still holding on, I think the bone broth is really doing them good, even Duncan's kidney and bladder issues have gotten better.

Mike, some of the world's best ideas, inventions and, yes, children (both dog and human) come from these "accidents."
You already knew that Odi was smarter than the average dog, he had figured so many things out and you were amazed at his potential. No, this will have a happy outcome, I'm sure. The only down side that I can see is having a household of little Odi-geniuses turning all of your carefully arranged plans upside down.

Let's face it Mike you were outwitted by a four-legged wonder on a mission. Get out the camera grand-pa, we want pics of the two jail breakers - Jade in all her preggo glory and Odi sporting a smug and satisfied expression.

As for D & D, I had been thinking about them, so glad to hear they are doing so well. Kudos to you. I know your old boy couldn't have had a better dad.

No, accidents happen all of the time! At least it happened to a responsible owner who is going to care for those puppies and provide them with everything they need. Keep us posted, PUPPY/MAMA PICS ARE NECESSARY!

Accidents do happen, it is why we put crates in two separate floors behind closed doors. Some even choose to board their males during heat cycles. I do however wonder why you did not have a mis-mating shot done or opt to have her spayed instead know jade's issues?

What is a mis-mating shot? I never heard of that before?

From my understanding and I am sure that Mike knows this, is that there are suspicions that this accidental breeding was actually somewhat a planned and intentional breeding.

I don't have much of an opinion on it either way. I hope that Jade's pregnancy goes well and all the puppies are happy and healthy. Odi is a real man now! :p

Damn it Mike, you was suppose to wait another 9 months for this ops. Wife is making me wait till end of summer or fall 2015, before another puppy, she would have only cuss me a little because it was not another EM.

Oh Well. Best wises with the litter grandpa Mike.

No this was not the plan. Odi was to be matted to Jade's sister Kiss Kiss (Kissy) Jade was to be spayed next spring. I called about the mismatch shot and the possible side effects were greater than i wanted to take a chance on. I also considered an abortion spay but again I felt too protective of my girl to do that as well. This is one of those real deal accidents. Yes I could have taken greater precautions but I was so confident that the crate was going to be enough that I did not consider any addition need. Odi will still be mated with Kissy next spring or summer and by then he will have his xrays and health check.

BTW Jade has been xrayed both hip and elbows remember? One vet said she had ED but 2 other say she did not, and all 3 vets say her hips look great. No entropian and the last heart check was clear.

Do you think you will keep one of the pups from the litter?
I am honestly so happy I have never had to deal with this as I'm not sure I could handle rejoining the pups after being through the pregnancy, birth and the first 8 weeks of their care.
I can totally understand being protective of your girl.

Okay I will buy not wanting to take the risks on mis-mating shots although most do not use the shot but other methods to abort puppies these days with far few risks, but why avoid the spay if you are planning to spay her later anyway? Also if you spent the time having the x-rays checked by 3 different vets why did you not send to OFA to have them certified, they are specialist that are used to looking at them all the time, your vet*s x-rays could have been sent easily I believe they only need a registration number, micro-chip or tattoo number and the X-rays but it has been a bit since I completed the paperwork as my vet keeps our stuff on file. Were the hips certified by OFA or PennHip? Was the heart? I understand saying these things were checked but unless they are done by specialists then things can be missed, they have been several times by General Practitioner vets several times with breeder friends of mine.

Mistakes happen! What would be unethical is selling the puppies. As long as you find good homes and homes that understand that there might be health issues then in my book you are a stand up kind of guy.
