Bloody diarrhea but fecal came back clean.. Wth!

This morning Stella had diarrhea with muscous and blood. Brought in the fecal and it came back clean! What the heck is going on?! Her diet hasn't changed, I've been giving her yogurt daily and she was acting normal yesterday and today.

The vet techs just said "I dunno" today.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Did she have a new treat or get into something?

Could be a mild case of Iritable Bowl Syndrom/colitis? It can't be tested in a stool sample as it is irratation in the large intestine. Can be caused by change in diet or even jsuta treat, supplement, water additive, medication anyhting that is processed by the intestinal tract.

From what i understand, mucous is a response to irritation in the intestinal wall. If the blood is bright red, then it's also an irritation, but happening lower in the GI tract (which is a "good" thing; better than darker colored blood that would/might indicate a problem further up- or elsewhere.)

The last time Mateo had diarrhea with blood in it, I fasted him one meal (he didn't have much of an appetite anyway), then gave him some bone broth, with a bit of bentonite clay (helps absorb toxins and firm up the stool), as well as a light meal with some softer bone , like chicken or duck necks.

By the next day he was back to normal, with solid stool-- and his energy was back. I couldn't believe it just took a day, but it did.

You may want to fast her at least one meal, just to give her digestive system a break...

Not that I can think of. Although, I did just catch her eating some mud/grass. I also gave her a tiny bit of Gatorade yesterday on our hike. It was just a little bit of regular Gatorade.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try and get some of that clay soon. Honestly, I feel like her poops have been "off" for a while. Do you think it could be an allergy to pork or beef? She gets pork almost everyday.

Than IBS/Colitis could be a possibility if she was eating grass/mud. Couldn't say whether the Gatorade was a factor. I would stop her from ingesting Mud as it could give her a blockage. Maybe try what NYDDB has said and fast her for a bit? Just to get her intestines cleaned out and rested.

Pork is a known link to IBS in humans!! That could be it! I would try and leave out the Pork for a bit and see if that helps. :)

Could be...you don't feed her sharply cut pork bones, do you? Some raw feeders feed butcher-cut pork necks, and sometimes the edges can be sharp and irritating.

Please remember, if you are going to get the bentonite clay, to use the liquid form that is meant for ingesting- not the dry form (that is usually used externally, although I'm not sure if there really is a difference.) Sonne makes a trusted liquid form.

The irritation could just be a fluke from some meat/bones that just didn't sit right for her; it's probably better news that the fecal came back normal!

No sharp bones. I am paranoid about bones so she gets chicken necks or wing. I will lay off the pork. Too bad we just bought a ton of it! Lol

Also, am safe to take her on a short hike today? No up hill or anything.

Anddddd how often can I give her chicken? I'm trying to save money (might be moving....) and I want to know how often I can rotate between red meat and poultry.

what color was the Gatorade? If it was the red stuff, she passed the dye. If not ignore my post. :D and I hope she gets better soon.

It was red Gatorade! And her stool was muscousy -and she went in the house at night (only does that when sick). but I'm questioning the pork heavily. We got a lot recently for a great price, one day this week she threw it up... When I first started raw her poops were perfect, but I was only feeding chicken. Now she has this thing where she walks and poops and she is straining (used to happen with the three kibbles we tried). I just assumed at first it was because of her heat. Then I blamed it on these chicken necks that may have gone bad. I just can't afford to feed steak everyday lol.

Any chance the pork was enhanced? Look for the sodium content - you want <100mg per 4oz serving. Hopefully it was just the red gatorade!! We feed pork all the time around here... I think Denna might have a low-grade chicken allergy, so we limit how much chicken she gets (makes her skin sensitive, not dry, just a little itchy). From the rawfeeder yahoo group, they give the AOK to feeding chicken "a lot" since they consider it still better than kibble... If she gets better on just chicken, you can give just little bits (4-8oz at a time) of the pork and see if you can work it in that way. (that's what we do with chicken)

Ya I was thinking of doing half chicken and half beef on the reg. and then occasionally substituting the chicken with some "special" meats like rabbit, bison, etc. lately she has just been getting beef and pork with a small amount of raw meaty chicken bones. Even the liver and organs she gets is beef and lamb.

I also don't have the packaging for the pork anymore because i portioned it into bags already, but I really don't think it was enhanced, not 100% sure though. The next time i go to the store I will find out.

Thank you mike!! I usually give pedalite but I forgot to get it before our hike so I just gave her some of my Gatorade! I should have looked it up before I gave it to her :/

No problem. I found this out a long time back. You probably have nothing to worry about this time, just irritation from the dye and Gatorade. Give her a day or 2 on normal routine and see if it changes.
