Lets start a thread of Boerboels working or in action. @Mods are shots of dogs hogging ok? Even if the dog is actually catching a hog?
Here is a nice Tiger Brindle "Zola"

Ok I'll not post the one I had, there was some blood. And I am not one to promote blood sports anyways.

Sometimes bigger isn't better.

What are they like to own Mike? Do you know enough to compare them to the TM in order to educate me by making like for like comparisons? I have a feeling they are a fairly rare breed, a breed to be taken seriously, yes a beautiful breed but are they of soft, medium or hard temperment? Are they open and willing to please and obedience train? Affectionate? Strangers? Sports? I really know nothing about this breed, there doesnt seem to be many owners here, much like the TM. I would love to know more. I like the rare breeds.

I have 0 experience with TMs so I can't compare them. But I can give you my experience with Jade and her family. Jade is my first full mastiff breed and I was not prepared for all the surprises. Great nature to me and anyone I accept. She perceives and senses threats either through me or before me. If I am talking to someone that is on the other side of my fence and I decide I don't like them she will ruff up and try to get close to me or in between us. If I am relaxed and accept a person she will just sit and watch us. Her natural senses are seemingly supernatural. I have seen her wake up and smash a spider on the floor that was 5 feet away from her. I don't know if she smelled it or heard it but it was all about the spider. I even saw her look behind a shelving unit so I looked and there was a spider behind it. She is alert and smart, easy to train but gets bored with training easy. I mean once she learns something you better move to something new or you lose her.
Agility and speed is amazing. I saw her run after a bicyclist in the forest (bad Jade needs training for this) and no mater how fast he peddled she was catching up, she stopped the chase on the "leave-it" command. So yes they have some prey drive, she also will eat wild caught prey, mice, gophers and birds so far. If she catches it then it's her's. She loves her pack mates, if she is not next to me she is next to one of them. She loves me like I am her god, she sleeps with her nose under my back on the couch or in my lap. She hugs my neck and rubs my head like a cat would if I let her up. She only barks if she senses something out of place (sight, sound or smell). I would call Jade the ultimate companion dog. One of her sisters is being trained for service to a wheelchair bound woman and what's odd is that Violet/Rosie (name change) seems to have adapted to the small living environment. She did not grow as big as Jade, is softer in disposition her coat is softer and she is 100% more calm than Jade. Really uncanny. Jade is about 130/135# her big brother Marsdin about 170# Rosie 90/100. They are very unique in my opinion. Ask me and I will try to answer.

interesting. sounds like a tm in some ways, such as the protection and perception (sp), more affectionate and more geared to pleasing their master. a tm is driven to stand alone, think for itself no matter what you say, they think they know better and therefore are difficult to obedience train. my tm is obedience trained BUT it was a long hard slog, and even now its 95%, if she thinks something else is more worthy of her attention you have no hope. how about BB's with other dogs? at dog parks? meeting new people? in crowds? could they be a therapy dog?

She seems to be ok with meeting new dogs but is aloof of new people at the start. But I have seen them used as therapy dogs. They know there is no threat with the (those) sort of people they meet. I have not done a dog park but we have brought new dogs into class and she is fine with them. She wants to meet then play. Even when I took her to a dog friendly outdoor BBQ the dogs that rushed her she was intimidated at first then stood her ground in front of me but did not get aggressive towards them.

I love ke$ha's coloring! She really does look like a tiger.

Since there are two sides to every story, are there any bad qualities about the BB? Are they able to be trained to stay in a parameter without a fence or tieout?
