it may be different up north, but many gulf coast hunters won't feed wild game to their dogs
they could get chronic wasting disease, trichinosis or other serious ailments

Really! There are many raw feeders along the gulf coast that have never had a problem. Even before I started feeding raw I had dogs that would catch wild animals and never had a problem.
chronic wasting disease cannot be caught by dogs, and trichinosis like other parasitic problems is solved by freezing the meat solid for a period of time.

Are domestic animals at risk for CWD?
There is no indication to date that CWD is a threat to domestic animals or livestock other than deer or elk, and there have been no reports of CWD in dogs or cats.
I would worry about Lyme disease too.
Storing infected meat in a freezer with a temperature no higher than -13 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 days will also destroy the parasite.
You will not get Lyme disease from eating venison or squirrel meat.....
