Hi , I was looking at getting a cane corso sometime in the next couple of years and wanted to start researching early about the bloodlines, reliable breeders and also the temperament of the breed . I'm fairly new to the breed as I have never had one before but have raised a dogo argentino so I understand how much of a responsibility it takes to owning a dog with that amount of strength, dominance and strong will , also I'm looking for a show/working quality , a very nicely built dog but with a protective instinct.i would like to show him/her but I'm not 100 on that yet. I'm located in ontario and would like a breeder down here but I'm willing to ship from anywere in the US and Canada .also my main purpose of getting this dog is not to show , I just want the top quality and best I can get .

Hi and welcome to the forum. There are a few member of corso owners on here that can likely help with most lines that you might be interested in. It is unfortunate but we don't have a lot of responsible breeders here in Canada so doing research is very important, as those working to better the breed are spread all across the country it might help to narrow down those that are breeding dogs that you like the look of and work from there. I would be aware that most responsible breeders will only sell show/breeding potential dogs on a co-own that allows them to work with the new owner but rarely sell outright. Also unless you are 100% going to show or work if they have another home lined up that does plan to do those things you might not get what you would consider the top quality in the litter as they are going to want to ensure those ones are out there putting their kennel name out if at all possible. It doesn't mean they might not have another nice quality one that they might want to see mature but it likely isn't a for sure. I haven't ever owned a dogo so can't compare their temperament to a corso but I think there are a few members on here that have and can hopefully come on and give you their experience. Temperament is becoming a tricky factor in our breed, as we are having a huge number of unstable dogs being bred for $$ and not the temperament that sets them apart as the true guardians they are. There aren't alot of people showing in ON yet but I do have a couple friends there that I am sure should you be interested in showing would love to help out and get together at the shows so you can all enjoy your time out with the dogs.
