Cesar Millan: Opinion

Ahhh Cesar, he does seem to be a lighting rod. I've read some of his books and watched his shows. Here's what he's taught me that I use:

1) He talks a lot about being aware of your energy and what energy you're giving to your dog.
2) He also makes us aware of our intention, visualizing, and creating what it is that you want.
3) He reminds us that we need to earn our dogs trust and respect.
4) I use his formula of exercise, discipline (I read this as structure - not punishment), and affection.

If you haven't already, I would encourage you to read some of his books. I would also recommend reading Suzanne Clothier. She has a lot of great articles on her website http://suzanneclothier.com/ - especially the one on Leadership Basics.

I also like the idea of setting boundaries and limitations for your dogs. Too many people treat their dogs like they are human and that can cause problems.
However, the choking, kicking and provoking is completely uncalled for.

yep he provokes the dog to react with a stomach kick but the dog goes after him and he can't control it so he chokes it into submission.

Mike I think you agree .. Caesar when picking someone's type of training to steal he should have stolen a better more updated method then the old barbaric methods ... Hurting a dog is not training it's abuse....
I see it in training for competitions from people all the time.. One I hate most is sticking a Ecollar on the back end of a dog to make a robot puller in weight pull

Sad!!!

Mike what would you do?

I wouldn't have gotten in that position with the dog because I wouldn't have kicked him. I would have praised him for not reacting bad towards the other dog. CM needed the reaction for ratings.

But lets say I have a dog on a lead that goes nuts on me like that. I would probably get bit because you need to be fast pull back on the lead and try to stay behind the dog. Keep circling and correcting with the lead until you can pull back and get a hand on the neck or back and push the animal down and hold him until his rage subsides. You will often get bit but you only have that and choking the dog as a means of gaining control.

Deb he does all that crap just to push his ratings up. From all the videos of him I have watched, any dog that does not react the way he wants he provokes in some way or another.

Mike I know that I have met the thing in person at a seminar he thought he was speaking at with his henchman around him. He walked in like all wanted to know him and the seminar had all REAL Trainers at it who didn't give to Rats butts about his dumb arse.

I will continue to say he is not worth being on TV ugh to the dog folks who don't understand :(

Sometimes you see someone and wonder, "Can I get away with punching him in the nose?" then you just have to walk away.

No it's funnier watch his dumb arse get out in its place my REAL TRAINERS.

I laughed and laughed when he stood up to educate what was being said .. He was told to sit down and shut up!
